Colonial Cub Scout Utility Knife #1883 Wanted

Colonial Knife was incorporated in 1926 by three brothers; Antonio, Domenic, & Fredrick Paolantonio. It grew to become one of the largest pocket knife manufacturers in the US during the 1960s. The company shut down in 1998, but was back into production under the Colonial Cutlery International Corporation in 2001. Colonial Cutlery International, Inc. brand is the imported line of knives and tools while the U.S.A.- made products fall under the Colonial Knife brand.

Colonial Cub Scout Utility Knife #1883 Wanted

Post by bestgear »

HELP!

I'm writing a book on Official Scout knives extending the great work of Joseph Kerr and I'm looking for a fairly new and inexpensive Official Scout knife that I've had a difficult time finding. It's a Colonial Cub Scout knife #1883 and I've attached a photo for your reference. I'd love to find one new/unused in the box but would love to hear from anyone that might have one for sale. Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Scott, I looked all over the BSA website for the USA made Colonial Cub Scout knives and all I can find is unbranded made in China knives. I would sure like to have a link the to the actual Colonial made in the USA Cub Scout - need one for my collection too - willing to pay in Yankee dollars!

Correct, 9ball!! We NEVER made a scout knife without a can opener and NEVER made a scout knife with a double liner lock! Good eye my friend..ALSO, the # 1883 is NOT a Colonial stock number...

I think the # 1883 is a number assigned to the knife by the Boy Scouts of America. It's not actually a stock number used by the knife company.

Hey Philco, this is true! Lots of our private labeling orders, the customer prefered thier own tang stamp AND a special stock number...once again this scout you showed us IS NOT a Colonial..you may want to contact Camillus and see if they have any further info that might help you!

Colonial Cub Scout Utility knife, STILL NEEDED.

This is the standard Cub knife with with blue “flat” handles, I.e. not pseudo-jigged.

I am seeking this blade, too.

Do you have one?

Drop me a line.

Hey all.

There have been four knife suppliers the BSA has used to provide “Official Cub Scout” knives. Note the use of “supplier” not “manufacturer”. In order they are:

1 Camillus ~1948-2010
2 Imperial ~1952-1965
3 Colonial ~2011
4 Buck ~1997
5 Bear MGC ~2012-2013
6 Scout Ware (China) ~2018-present

Quite commonly, one manufacturer would deliver knives to BSA with another supplier’s tang stamp. The manufacturers shared equipment, patents, and bankruptcy inventories in regards to Cub Scout knives. This meant knives made by a Camillus knifesmith would be delivered with Imperial tang stamps.

Regardless, I downloaded the incorrect knife photo. The Colonial knife I seek is illustrated in the attached new photo. Note the tang stamp.

Oh yeah, my brother. This (these) exist for sure, but in very limited quantities. Both the Colonial and Bear MGC issues are very rare; in fact they are the rarest of all the Cub knives. Both are different internally.

Help!
