New paint stuff.............

Last weeks work included this custom 1954 Chevrolet.Color was two tone blue so I used two more shades of blue for the striping.Pics were taken by my friend and apprentice Tim(the one I bought the huge Italian stiletto from).Also my newest find:a 1940's era Craftman tool box shaped like a mailbox.I have two of these that are similar in shape and size but have different latching methods.I'll post pics of both.The one I got yesterday has a removable tray whose handle also holds the lock mechanism.The other one has two sliding trays.
The box was in pretty rough shape when I got it.It was very rusty and bent up and the lock was frozen and minus the key.I cleaned it up and straightened the bends and sprayed it with Hammertone Brown paint which resembles the original brown wrinkle paint.Not the best paint job but I didn't want it to look new.
I'll post the pics of the boxes separately.

That old Chevy looks so cool ! If I had an old car I'd want something like that. Great job as always on the stripes.

Seems like I have a dim memory of seeing one of those mailbox style toolboxes somewhere many, many years ago. Wish now I could recall who had it.

Yes it does John;single carb and all.There is also a continental kit that mounts on the rear which is why there is no striping on the trunk. Strangely enough he wanted the hood ornament re-installed on the hood but elected to leave off the Chevrolet hood badge.Here is a pic of the tire ring.That was fun working on as it was fresh out of the paint booth and still a bit soft so I couldn't make any mistakes on it because it couldn't be wiped off if I did.

Looks good!! Looks like the lake pipes are functional too.. My son has a 50 Fleetline mild custom we did and his lake pipes are functional as well.. NO mufflers!! His is running a 61 235 with a mild cam, .30 over, 2 carbs on a Fenton intake with Fenton headers.. Noisy to say the least!! Loud pipes save lives!!! John

Nothing like the sound of a Stovebolt 6 with a split manifold or headers. A friend of mine in town has a GMC pickup with a 302 six and triple Solex carbs(similar to the old Carter YH sidedrafts)and that one has the nastiest set of pipes I've heard on a 6 in a long while.We go to breakfast every other Wednesday(old coots gathering)and I'll try and remember to bring my camera to get some pics. Actually there is a car show in downtown Tecumseh tomorrow night and Tom should be there so I'll get them then.

My first car was a '52 Chevy. Not a lot of difference between the '52 & the '54.

i had a '53 cheby...with fender skirts, dual spots...chort mon...i'd drive through the hispanic parts of phoenix in the 70's and the puchuko would wave...till they saw my eyes...lol
