Possibly a Historic Find!!!!

I am pretty sure there are some of you out there who will see the significance of this Officers Lapel pin. It was found in Astoria, Oregon which is about 10 miles from Fort Stevens. That is the Installation that was shot at by the Japanese on June 21, 1942. The assigned Artillery of Fort Stevens at the time were as far as I can discern was the Third Coast Artillery Regiment HHB(Headquarters,Headquarters Battery) The last lettered was "E" Company and it had been moved a year or so before. The other device in the photo is an Enlisted Mans Collar insignia of the same time period. They were found together. Would it not be the things history is about if this device were hanging on the Duty Officers Uniform when the only emplacement in the continental U.S. was attacked during WW 2.

I have read that all of the early numbering 1 through 9 of the Coast was done away with in the mid 40's. There were a great many more changes including some consolidating in the 50's. There are some great sites on the net. Just type your Regiment, Battery and Company into Google.

When you say "found" Moss, how do you mean that? Found as in metal detector and dug or found as in someones attic (or more likely basement)?

The Latter as in estate sale. I found it them in a can of other pin backs, actually in a room set aside for an office.
