I will be gone for a while..................

Post by orvet »

I just thought I would save everyone, (well, a couple people might wonder…….) from wondering here I am when they don’t see me logged onto AAPK for the next 10 days to 2 weeks…………………..

Don’t you just hate it when a friend asks “ what you doing,” and you reply “nothing” and they say “Great you can help me move”? ::dang:: ::dang:: ::dang::

Well, my best friend and fishing buddy of the last 39 years is moving, and of course I will help him. He is moving from one of the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound Washington to a town a few miles north of Miami Florida. According to TravelNotes.org it is a bone crunching, butt welding driving distance of about 3400-3450 miles.

I figure at the end of the trip I will have a career in Hollywood a zombie! Image
I can see the movie marquee posters now: ORVET, staring in ROAD ZOMBIES FROM HELL!
And you just KNOW it will be a knife movie! Image

As plans are now, we will be leaving tomorrow morning (Sunday the 19th).
Since I don’t have a laptop and my phone is a dumb phone, I can’t log onto AAPK unless there is a computer room at the hotels we stay at.

Y’all be good. I will check in as I can.
See ya’ in 10 days or so.

Be careful out there! I drove with my daughter from eastern NC to Seattle about five years ago so she could go to grad school. I drove the first day - thankfully she drove the rest of the way (my "extremely fast" 70 mph was much too slow a pace for her!) She drove, I prayed (and looked out at the scenery).
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

Sounds like a good chance to do some cross country knife hunting. Great way to stretch your legs. Might want to set the trip up to hit a few known hot spots and keep your eyes open for antiques stores and junk shops. Good luck.

Wow, that's about as cross-country as it gets, drive safely and sniff out some knife browsing stops along the way! ::tu::

Try to route through Sevierville, TN and hit the Knife Museum at SMKW, it's amazing and well worth the trip. ::nod:: I'm sure your bud will understand.

It is Thursday morning, the 23rd. We got in late to some little town south of Oklahoma City, OK. We spent the night and are getting ready to leave now.
WOW! It is a lot further across the USA than I thought! We made a pit stop yesterday in a small town Kansas. We went into a gift store and low & behold there were some knives there! The guy working there said they were his uncle's knives. I bought a NIB Schrade PS2 I needed for a display. I sure didn't expect to find an old Schrade in a gift shop! The guy said his uncle is a member of AAPK! I will have to email him when I get home.

I hope the spelling is ok, no spell check on this hotel PC.
Next stop Dallas, TX.

See ya'll later!

Dang dude! You're making good time. Congrats on the knife. It pays to keep your eyes open. You should have stopped at Sgt Grits when you went through OKC and said hello to Don. Safe travels my friend.

Sittin' here reading how our friend Dale is progressing on his trip to Miami, realizing he will drive within about 1 1/2 miles of our place as he goes east on I-10. Should have put up a big sign, "Welcome to Florida Orvet!" on the fence next to the interstate! Hope he can beat the weather getting his friend unloaded and squared away on that end of the world. When I saw your post it hit me. They are driving right into the teeth of the storm. Actually the storm tracks I saw on Weather.com this morning showed it heading right straight for YOU.

Man, those guys are haulin' the mail. Is he going to stop and see you Phil? Watching the Isaac news on Weather.com, I wouldn't be overly eager to hit Miami before Monday.

Phil, they're now calling for a Cat. 2 for your area.
