Rich L (aka new guy/knife winner)

Post by rlong27574 »

I started accumulating knives a few years ago, when my dad starting giving them to me for Christmas presents. He'd buy them off the tool trucks that came by, like Snap-on, Mac, and Cornwell. I always get on him every year because when you buy on these trucks, they are marked up on price. He always makes a compelling point though and says "you can't get them anywhere else". I am 37, husband, and a father to two wonderful boys, Caleb (10) and Cobey (8). My oldest has me searching online for knives all the time. He wants me to make him a hidden blade, like on the game Assassins Creed. I have made a few knives over the last few years and I enjoy doing it. I work in a metal trade’s type industry, where I have access to all types of metals and machinery. I know my way around the machine shop.
I have dreams of making my own knife making shop at home someday. I constantly look on AAPK for information about old knives and such. I have been on this site a lot. My boy wanted me to win a knife giveaway back in August, so I became a registered member. We had seen the knife giveaways for a while, but I am not a big talker, so I didn't want to sign up. If I don't post much, don't think I am not here, because I usually check in every few days. I have about 50 knives at this time, but we are adding every chance we get. Hope this helps you get to know a little about me. I will be putting up some pics of some of my knives soon. Thanks for the warm welcome so far.

Rich,
Glad to have you buddy.
Anything that you can enjoy together with your boys, is a great thing.
My 2 sons, Mark(21) and Ethan (8) have had me make all sorts of things from wolverines "claws" to Harry Potter wands, and the latest wish is the hidden dagger from assassins creed! Funny thing is, those homeade toys seem to mean as much to them as they do to me.

Rich, welcome to AAPK from a fellow North Carolinian! OH

Rich, I noticed you are from North Carolina ... me too ?
What part of the state do you live in, ( if you don't mind me asking ) ?

I live in the Durham area of NC, Old Hunter is from the far eastern part of the state. One day he and I are going to hook up for lunch/dinner.

When it comes to knife collectors , the more the merrier.

That's great that your boys are into your hobby. My son doesn't share my love of cutlery.
