help me finding the right motor for grinder

Hi fellows,


I'm planning to upgrade my grinder. I have had this grinder for years and its time to change the motor. Here i need your advice.

I am looking at the motor with the following specs -
Enclosure: TEFC
Phase: 3
Hz: 60
Frame: 56C
Have looked at Baldors, andfound one on here that is compatible https://www.mrosupply.com/product/69908 ... al_Purpose

What are you folks using and do you like what you have? what do you think of Baldors? what are the alternatives?

Baldors are good motors. Very costly too. I use an old washing machine motor from a yard sale to run my grinder. It's not the 3450 rpm tho. It's the 1725 rpm General Electric brand. It's worked fine for me for several years.

A 3450 is fine as long as you can regulate the speed, but a 1750 rpm and even my 1125 rpm have their uses. My Baldor is a great motor, but I also have a couple of the newer Craftsman motors with the same specs. One powers a buffer that's as hard to stall as the Baldor and the other powers my Coote Grinder. They're worth a look.

Did I read that correctly? 3 phase?

Is this for home use? If it is, 3 phase isn't going to work unless you have a converter to convert your single phase 220 VAC electric power to 3 phase 220 VAC.

Baldor is a good motor but for something as simple as a grinder, so are a lot of others for home use.
