Alaskan Custom Question

A new custom I recently picked up; by Alaskan maker Roger Totten. Mirror polished 440 SS blade; with Caribou antler scales. I've never had this type of knife; guess it's some kind of a skinner? Thanks.

I make one very simular to it, called a moon skinner. Mine has a much wider and a deeper curve to it. I used high Carbon damascus and Ram horn on mine. just thought you might like to see one simular.

Thanks man, I just wanted to show you one that wassimular to yours. I tried to basically make a Ulu with a handle on it. Something that would be comfortable in the hand while in use, s well as something that would take a pelvic bone out of the way as well. As with all of my blades I sub-zero quench and triple temper, I know most say it will not help on High Carbon or High Carbon Damascus. But after talking to several metallurgists I have come to the conclusion that it does add strength and durability to any steel. And, that seems to be the outcome of the blades tested.
Anyway I just wanted to give you a little different slant on your blade.

NICE knife Paul!!

Not sure where to add this - searched for Caribou, so here goes............................

I went with a buddy to his bro-inlaws on Saturday and was gifted this 'half-rack' of Caribou.
He carves and does other art, but had this for many years and did not use it. He knows I have
been into knives, so he urged me to take it. I am not sure its gonna be useable, but plan on
getting some to MM soon enough. The green staining is from weathering under Sitka Spuce trees
that shed pollen every year (thick like dust for a couple weeks).

If you have it stabilized it should be fine!

Thanks Dale! I am chunking it up and sending it out, whoever ends up with parts of it
will have to stabilize it I guess, not sure exactly what that is, and have not looked into it.
I plan to send some of this to MM, but I will happily send you a piece if you are interested.
Moose and Caribou horns are not that rare here, I will stumble on more I am sure, so just
drop a PM and I will make sure you get a piece of this one.

I was looking at it last week for a handle on a Carl Schlepper stick tang I picked up with a collection I bought. But it is too big around (about 1-1/2") for that knife.
I will have to find a blank that needs slab handles and make slabs from the horn.
The only problem there is that the hard bony outer outer layer is not very thick on these. I don't know if that is typical of caribou antler or not, but it adds more challenges in working with it.

I will use it when I find the right knife for it. I have it out where I see it daily and I often ponder what I can use it on. I will use it when I find the right project for it.
