Oh so that's why there are no jobs.
I guess the high cost of running a business, taxes, health care cost, unemployment insurance cost.
Or the high cost of liability insurance, energy to heat, cool the building, or the electric to keep the lights on.
Fuel to run the delivery trucks, insurance for company cars/trucks, payroll taxes, future healthcare mandates.
The ever growing cost of supplies needed to make product.
Other expenses of making payroll, vacation pay, pension/401K contributions workers comp.
Maybe even lack of demand for the products you make prevent you from hiring more workers.
Competition from other countries where they don't pay 72$ an hour to bolt down the back seat of a car.
That all has nothing to do with it.

You're right Bill. Other countries pay 50 cents an hour to bolt down a seat. Did you ever see how the workers there live?
Life would be meaningless if we couldn't wish for anything.

I have, over there they are poor. That's why I am so glad I live in the US.
Where even most of the people who live in poverty have running water and a bathroom IN their home.
Here most poor people have a color TV, internet connection, computer, cell phone, refrigerator likely even a car.
But the biggest difference is the poor people in the US have enough to eat that they are fat.
Not saying there are no homeless people, or people who are in real trouble. But a lot of those folks are mentally ill.
Many of them refuse help and want no part of rehab, homeless shelters or any help that is available.
Over the years they shut down many mental hospitals and let the people lose on the street.
I don't have all the answers, but paying 72$ an hour to bolt down a seat in a car is crazy!!!!!
We have it so good here we are spoiled.

No Jobs!?! My butt ::dang::

I volunteer at the Portland Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen. I my line of work I run into a lot of people. One of my clients runs a Call center. Basically a bunch of people answering phones and taking orders for stuff you see on TV and in print ads. Not the most lucrative of jobs but you can work your own hrs. Pay is $7 an hr plus commissions and benefits.

So I get some info together, Job descr. and aps. etc and went to give them out figuring that folks would be happy to go to work.

WRONG!!!!

Here's what I heard: I'm disabled (what, can't answer a phone??)
I can only work so many hrs. as it will CUT into my SS, disability or unemployment. That's BS, you can WORK as much as you want.

I'm So tired of hearing folks say "I'm on a fixed income" Well, so am I...............I just have to work for mine. ::facepalm::

Sheesh, people really disapoint me.

Sorry for the rant

The problem is that, that $7/hr. is just enough to disqualify you for other benefits but not enough to sustain you.

Good rant Bacon!

When I was an LVER (Local Veterans Employment Representative) I had a client come into my cubical, I looked at his file, saw his skill sets and experience and asked him how I could help him. He answered, “I am just looking to see what you have.” I replied I am sure we could find some job for him to do. He said, “Oh, no. I don’t want a job. I am just looking for what ever you have to give away. I can’t work, I am 30% disabled!”

About this time I am having a hard time maintaining my composure. Image
I said, “I am rated 80% service-connected disabled and I am here everyday at work! What do you mean you can’t work?”
His snide reply was; “Well, that is your choice. I choose not to work.”

I can’t write here what I said next, but suffice it to say I kicked him out of my office.

I have worked with thousands of veterans over the years. I have even had clients with severe combat related disabilities who refused to apply for service-connected disability or even medical treatment. Men with severe disabilities and I tried to talk them into seeking help through the VA. Many choose to go it alone as long as they could. They considered it their duty and privilege to serve their country! The guy looking for a handout was part of that fraction of a percentage of veterans who only want a handout. They are NOT typical of my veteran clients over the years!

I had read that story already from another source.
Of course with the Huffpo spin it makes him look like the evil robber baron telling the little guys how to vote.
Well, if you believe what Huffpo says..............I would love to be your real estate agent!

The guy was stupid for saying what he did as it was way too easy to spin it.
But I do understand business, having managed several. When taxes go up the cost of goods and services go up and most often employees are laid off due to employers not being able to afford them. I think that was what he was trying to tell his employees. We have a WAY DOWN economy, gas here is over $4/gal as opposed to $1.69 when Obummer was elected. My pension has not doubled to keep pace with gas prices. I still have to travel so I buy fewer other things, like knives. The knife budget has shrunk and the gas budget had to grow to get my wife to her job & both of us to doctors.

IMO, he was trying to prepare his employees for a possible downturn in the economy and with it a further downturn in business and employment. It was a good thing to tell his employees to help them prepare for a possible layoff as soon as he knew one might be coming. As someone who has been in business I can see that the new massive rules & regulations imposed by Obummer WILL cause more layoffs if he is reelected.

I think he was trying to be a nice guy and forewarn his employees, but he was an idiot for telling them in the way he did; it sounded too much like he was telling them how to vote.

It's not his company. He didn't make that, Obama made that.

It is his business, his money, his choice to do with what he wants.
Looks like he is tired of all the regulations he has to deal with, and the high taxes he has to pay.
He has more than enough money to last him his lifetime.
So why put up with the headache of running a business if the government is just going to take more and more of his money.

I love the way people think a tax break is giving the rich money.
It's not "giving them money", it is letting them keep more of money that they made.

How about the FACT that the Obama admin. Specifically asked Lockheed Martin not to announce the coming massive layoff after the first of the year. Lockheed has to give advanced notice of a coming layoff by law now. They were told by the current admin. to hold off on the announcement and if/when law suits insued due to non-advanced disclosure, they could just bill the admin. for the costs (our tax dollars). So if the admin. is asking contractors to break the law to keep the unemployment numbers as stable as possible until after the election, then why can't this man tell the truth and warn his employees????

This info is not from the media even though it has been reported with a spin that left out the actual truth. I have friends and family that work at the Marietta,Ga. Lockheed plant and they are getting the info from the inside. As of right now the layoff has NOT been formally announced but WILL happen.

There are no jobs because this President is attacking and penalizing the very people who offer the jobs. Yes, they get rich but they also employ all of the people who spend their own money, pay taxes and boost the economy. What a freaking joke.
I dig half stops!!

My mom was a social worker, and I went on to work with people with developmental disabilities and then into education, so I've heard a lot of talk like this.

The problem is, it came from the other side. Government administrators and program directors saying things like "If Carter doesn't get re-elected, you won't have a job in 6 months." "If Reagan gets re-elected, you won't have a job after the first of the year." "If Bush gets elected . . . . If Bush gets re-elected . . . Folks from the teachers' unions saying, "If Bush gets elected. . . . " "If Bush gets re-elected . . . . " "If Obama doesn't get elected . . . ." And now, "If Obama doesn't get re-elected. . . . " I've heard professors start out a semester-long class by asking if "Was anyone here stupid enough to vote for Bush? Because if you were, I don't want you in my class." Or give a fifteen minute lecture on politics, ending with the words, "If Obama doesn't get elected, you'll never get a job as a teacher."

(Um, in other words, government employees seem to consistently feel entitled to "threaten good honest peoples' livelihood" if they don't do as instructed. Please excuse me if I don't get upset because some guy decided to act the same way on his own dime.)

The really funny thing is that in all that time, the only significant damage to the programs to the lives of the people served or to the staff doing the work, has come from the Democratic side of the aisle, under Democrat administrations, or both. (You can argue all you want about the effects of NCLB; it is admittedly flawed--but that is why re-authorizations including evaluating and changing to improve the law are an integral part of the process. The fact remains that after 30 years of having every attempt to hold schools accountable for the efficacy of their teaching, the first law to do so passed with bipartisan support and was signed by a Republican president.)

We hear a lot from this current administration about taking more money from the rich. Why???! ::shrug::
I have worked for a lot of different employers who all had one thing in common, (except when I worked for the state), all those employers were middle-class or wealthy!

Never once have I worked for a poor person. Why? Poor people do not employ other people. They do not have the money hire people!

So if we do like Obummer wants and penalize the wealthy & take their money, who will be creating jobs??

It is pretty much a no-brainer to me, let them keep their money and hire some people!
That is how we create jobs! ::tu::

If everyone would just chew on that thought for a minute or two, there would be a common sense understanding of where the present administration is leading us.

And if that doesn't get your attention, take time and read what is in store for our 2nd amendment rights if they go back into office. Soon you will probably have to have a permit to own or trade pocket knives.
