Kershaw Stops Automatic Knife Production

Kershaw began its foray into the knife business sometime during 1974. The company was originally based in Portland Oregon, but most early knives were manufactured in Japan. The first US manufacturing plant was opened in 1997 & the company currently offers knives made in the U.S., Japan, & China. Pete Kershaw (an ex Gerber salesman) started the business.

Kershaw Stops Automatic Knife Production

Kershaw Knives Stops Automatic Knife Production in 2012 because of lawsuits against the company.

There have been several lawsuits against Kershaw for idiots that have had automatic knives in states where they were restricted and Kershaw was sued over this matter.

Because litigation costs so much money and the headaches involved Kershaw and Zero Tolerance Switchblades have been removed from the product line up and the company will no longer make them.

This goes to show you that idiots infact impact everyone.

It is absurd that people are allowed to sue companies over making a product. A knife is a tool, just as a hammer or screwdriver and any tool can be misused as a weapon. Kitchen utility knives are not allowed to be carryed around in public because they are beyond the legal length limit in most places or would need to be visible on the person and yet kitchen knives are responsible for most knife crimes and no lawsuit has ever been taken up against them.

The logic in sueing Kershaw for being the producer of automatic knives that are illegally obtained and used is ridiculous.

All that has happened now is that it punishes all law abiding citizens, military, law enforcement, emt, and firefighters from not being able to have a well made product on the market.

There needs to be an end to this sort of madness. I wish people whould start suing the parents and every known relative related to the person that commits the crimminal act. That person would not be alive or created if it were not for their parents and relatives. The parents and relatives are responsible for creating the monster and they should be punished just as companies are punished for producing an item. This ofcourse is stupid but you can see the logic does make perfect sense. You have to be consistent with your ruling and I would like to see America grow up past these stupid concepts of blaming others for the criminals behavior. It should be upon the person to take responsiblity for their own actions and if they do not want to take responsibility then they should forfeit their freedoms and go work as a slave in a camp and let the rest of humanity that does enjoy freedom and takes responsibility to live our lives with justice and liberty.

I think that it's just a matter of time until all AO's are challenged more in the court system. It's already written into some state laws, as being considered a switch. ::shrug::

All of the AO's I've handled are as fast as any automatic.

You know how it is. Guns and knives jump up and hurt others with absolutely no human intervention.

Whoa whoa now...WTF? Surely this doesn't mean that they will cease production of knives with their "speedsafe" assisted open feature? Say it ain't so! ::uc::
Jerry, you'll have to keep this thread updated if you hear any more details than what that link contained.....If indeed they are stopping production of speedsafe knives, I will have to stock up on a bunch of Scallions, Leeks, and an extra Whirlwind or two...once again, Say it ain't so!

Mike I don't think we can extrapolate that article to include AO's. At least not currently. Hard to tell what the Chicken Little's will do in the future though. Our grandchildren may have to end up hiding their plastic sporks. "You'll put your eye out." (he said tongue in cheek).

I checked the couple of sites that I trust and have purchased autos from in the past and they are both sold out of all models of Kershaw autos. Dang-it. I was going to buy one out of pure spite. I did find one elsewhere but I try to stay with the sites I trust, especially when impulse and spite are involved.

I can't imagine all AO's actually being outlawed. To many BIG companies making and selling them to everybody, with high dollar lawyers on retainer. I can't believe Kershaw folded on the autos but for the most part they are already illegal (or thought to be) to civilians. Only time will tell ::shrug::
