Introduction
I have been reading here for a few days, and wanted to introduce myself.
I'm Bill DeShivs, and I'm a professional cutler. I do mostly automatics, with the occasional non auto. I have a fully equipped shop, and love doing cutlery work. I have been doing it for a long time! I also hand engrave, machine engrave, do plating, make parts, make custom knives, design knives, etc., etc.
Looks like a good bunch of enthusiasts here.
Any time I can help, just ask.

Re: Introduction
Welcome aboard. Glad you've decided to join us. Do you do any repairs or re-handles? There's some demand for that kind of work here on the forum.
I feel confident I speak for more than myself when I say we would enjoy seeing pictures of your work.

Re: Introduction
Welcome Bill! I joined AAPK just to offer a helping hand when I could, but have since had to retire from knife work due to eye surgery that didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. The guys here can help keep you busy with needed advice as well as rehandles and repair work. I've found everyone here just great to work with and think you will too. I still do a little work when I can and it's good to know there is another capable knife mechanic joining the fold and I also want you to know that if you're stuck on a job due to a lack of parts, the other repairmen here are usually ready to lend a hand. Thanks again for bringing your talents to AAPK and here's hoping you become a long-time fixture around here. Once again,

Re: Introduction
Friendly bunch!
I can do most any cutlery work, though I refer American auto work to Muskrat Man.
I stay pretty busy. I'm a factory authorized repair station for Hubertus, Grafrath, Kuno Ritter, Latama, Mauro Mario, and I think some more. Oh, yeah- Colonial too.

Re: Introduction
Nice shop Bill.
I like the fact that you have a separate room for grinding & polishing. Makes it easier to keep things clean.
I just love all the room!
I have everything crammed into about 2/3 of a 2 car garage.

Welcome to AAPK, Bill!!
Hey Dale, last I remember you were only using 1/2 of a 2 stall garage. Either your garage is gettin' smaller, or your knifin' space is gettin' bigger?

Re: Introduction
Bill, love your setup! Someday, i'd like to put together a dedicated knifin' shop. But for now, I still have a restricted space in the corner of my cabinet shop. It does what I need it to do, but when I start a cabinet job, I pretty much have to pack all the knifin' stuff away and dig it all out as time permits.
Never mind,
WB

Thanks for the welcome!
De Shop has changed a little since the pictures. Mostly dirtier!
Moved a few things around, added plating space, lots of shelving, blast cabinet, changed up the engraving bench, added a third engraving machine, new computer, CNC mill-lots of new stuff!

It's pretty funky right now. I'll have to clean it a little bit, as soon as things slow down.
I need to rearrange for more space and efficiency.
