The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!

Been working 60-70 hour weeks since the end of June. Have put 12K miles on my work truck since this deal started. I'm still messing with straight razors mostly as I can occasionally find a nice one on the bay for a decent price. Bought a very few knives in the last 6 months. Mostly trade stuff and nothing exciting.

Interesting day today. Started out rather soupy.



My world class button heads were broke down. I found that out AFTER I'd been waiting for them to show up for three hours..... SO I went and looked at some stuff that needed to be looked at ( ALL of it work related of course).
I had driven out of the fog and then headed back into it.



No cattle been shipped out these pens in a while I'd say.




Later on and back out of the fog again. The old GARAGE is really heavy on natural lighting.




THEN the real fun started. Another crew was doing road base repairs. THey had the road totally screwed up and were making folks drive off the shoulder onto the dirt to get around their mess. According to them, they notified the Oversize load permit office. The Practical Joke Dept of the permit office chose to disdain the notice and issued a permit for the big fella with the pick up parked in front of it.




Much arguing and heated words ensued. I was trying my best NOT to laugh. The truckers didn't know that their permit trumped the state boys. I was a good soldier and kept my mouth shut. After a few minutes I talked the state guys into letting the beast through by telling them that the state was gonna get a demurrage bill from that outfit a LOT of money if they tied him up to where he had to park for the night. THe guy in charge decided just maybe, they could let him slip by as he wasn't loaded. Empty that rig weighs 269K!!!

Hard to see it but there is a tractor on the back end of that beast. It's also 20' wide. They've been hauling the house or the nacelle for some BIG arsed wind mills up near Lubbock and were headed back to re-load and go back to Lubbock.

Hey Unk,

I don't know if they T Boone's or whose, but I can tell you that windmills have trashed the skyline from Jacksboro West. Those damn things are every where!

What I can't wrap my head around is the fact that each one costs 3-5 MILLION bucks. I wonder how far into the 23rd century they have to run to pay for themselves.

Oh well, LOTS of folks are making $$ off the damn things. The taxpayers sure ain't though.

Finally made it back to Mingus, TX today.

Summer gig is pretty much done. Took care of the punch list today and sent the crew home. Doubt we ever see this particular contractor on this type gig again. Crews did good work for the most part. Management has some real issues. Stupid decisions have cost that company about $35K in liquidated damages that were charged for non performance. Oh well.

Meanwhile back in Mingus. As stated before, there isn't much to Mingus anymore.

Wouldn't you just love to step back in time to when those old stores were still doing business and providing for the community?

Willie, the black & white pictures provide a very dramatic effect for that old stuff. Kind of reminds me of pictures taken during the depression. Makes you feel like you should see folks like these sittin' on the front porch of that old store. The big fella is my great-uncle. He died in the '50s when a tractor turned over on him.

That's Southern Illinois folks 'n' if that ain't country, I'll kiss your ass.

The kid second from the left holding the stick is my grand-Uncle Loyd Myers - I take my user name from him. The little girl second from the right is his sister / my grandmother, Dessie Myers. Notice my grandmother only has one leg left on her bloomers, and it has a hole in the knee - lol. This photo was taken in Beaver Co., OK around 1916-17.

I have this picture framed and hanging on the wall above my desk.

Here's an old family shot of my uncle, Alley Lansford and a ranch hand. The picture was taken in 1941. The rifle Alley's holding is Winchester Mod 95 saddle ring carbine. It's chambered for .30 US GOV'T 1903 which was the forerunner to the 30-06.


That rifle is in Dad's gun closet right now.

And another pic of Alley and his Plymouth.

I love those closed up stores Willie!

I will have to look for some of my old family pics.
My granddad had a shoe box full of pictures that were sepia tone pictures on one side and a post card on the back side. he told me that back then folks didn't have cameras so photographers would come through town and take pictures and print them out on postcards so you could mail them to friends.

If I can find one I will scan & post it.

The old fella sitting down in front with the chin whiskers is my great-granddad (he was called grand-pap) and the young fella standing just to his right behind him is my granddad. I think I'm pretty close when I say that picture was taken about 1908. I think that's Grand-pap's old log house in the background and if it is, we lived in that house for a while when I was about four or five years old.
