Uncle Joe - USMC

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Uncle Joe - USMC

Post by orvet »

This is a great story & video sent to me by a fellow Viet Nam Veteran. He and I worked with veterans returning from the Persian Gulf. He was a Navy Corpsman attached to Marines in Viet Nam.

This is an article about his uncle that appeared on his local TV station in Texas.
His uncle was a Marine in WW II.

The link is to the story and a video.

I've been thinking of filing a claim with the VA for service connected "loss of language skills". I didn't talk like that before I went to boot camp.

  I know what you mean!

My vocabulary increased dramatically when I arrived at the yellow footprints in MCRD.
I think I learned 64 new words before I moved off the yellow footprints.
Of course all those new words where all spelled with 4 letters or less!

It is hard to believe we were once so young and naive! ::uc::

Fifty years ago today, I was home on boot leave getting ready to head back to California and report into Port Hueneme for Construction Electrician school. That can't be possible. I feel like I'm only forty two.

Great post, Dale!
And Semper Fi to all you jarheads from my Dad. He landed on Okinawa with Uncle Joe and a lot of others. He was also on Guam and Saipan. Made it home fine but has since 'gone on'.
