Magnifying Glass

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Magnifying Glass

Post by Shearer »

Jerry recommend to a new member to have a good magnifying glass to check for bone handles so I though I start a new post. The one I use is out of a WW 2 bomb site. Its 3 3/4" OD

Interesting piece. Should certainly do the job either for bone or Berlin. Do you know how much magnification it provides?

This is the one that I have. Don't use it much but it's nice to have if you need one, Mitutoyo 7X with a removable measuring capabilities.

I have a couple that I use:
First is a Tasco 3x stamp reader. What is nice about this unit is you can fit an average size folding knife under it and use the clear sides to side illuminate the knife for photographing.
Second is the folding luope I used to use.It is about 3x but has a small 10x lens incorporated into the bigger one.
Last is my latest one that was given to me by a fellow knife collector. This is a 30x lens that has 2 small LED's underneath to illuminate whatever you are looking at. Not sure who made it but it is of Asian origin.

Neat thread ... I have a few, but nothing impressive.

The large desktop/workbench glass is a 5X, I think? ... my pocket glass is a 3X, and comes in quite handy for multiple purposes.

and ... for spotting those "far off" deals, I often use my cheap Bushnell 3-9X / 40mm

Here are my seeing aids. I like options.
TJ, I have one similar to yours. Didn't know what I had till I got it home from a flea market. I think I paid a whole two bucks for it.
It's cool.

I have these two - not high dollar, but they definitely come in handy … they both have little LED's incorporated which seems to make all the difference … (when did this happen?) …
