I need a dog

Post by Bacon Lover »

I just moved into some new digs and REALLY want a dog. I'm thinking border collie. Here's one I saw this past weekend, his name is Flash. Anyone have any comments or recommendations?

Also some pix of my new place. I have 2 acres, but there is lots of open space around.

BTW Flash lives on a big farm in Wilmington VT and he is the greeter and is in charge of herding all visitors. He is really good at his job.

Great choice Liv, Border collies are the easiest trained and smartest dogs. A well known fact for all the gents who I am sure will disagree shortly ;)

Here is the latest pic of my dog I am sure most have seen him before ;)

Nice Doberman. What is his/her name?

I have seen exhibitions of the border collie's herding prowess, it seems to come naturally. You should see them herd a bunch of ducks, very funny.

Just keep in mind herding dogs are very territorial, fearless and have lots of energy especially when young. They are very intelligent dogs. I love to watch them work. ::tu::

Here is where I got my English Cream Golden............Oscar, he is 3yo now (yes they stay white).
He is by far the most interesting and well behaved dog I have ever been around.
The owners were a pleaseure to deal with and took him to the airport for his trip to AK.

Not funny at all. When I was a kid growing up on the dairy farm my parents needed a new stock dog and bought a border collie pup simply because of the mother herding the owners geese. They figured any pup out of a dog that would herd geese would make a good stock dog and they were right. That was the best stock dog we ever owned.

Nonononono, do not get me wrong, it was funny watching the dog herd the ducks 'cause they seemed harder to control than the sheep. Plus, they just looked funny all waddling along together.

Putting the 'Vette away for the winter at my Dad's to do a little maint. So, I'll be Jeeping it for the Winter. :( I really like this old house and will do a little interior work on it this Winter (Update kitchen and bathrooms kinda thing)

I am also thinking that 'cause the dog will spend some time indoors or in the barn this Winter if a Border Collie will be ok. Maybe a Dachshund would be a better choice. Or both? ::shrug::

Bl,a Dachshund is completely different from a Border, for most people too much of a personality.Obediance is something a Dachshund(Dackel)isn't good at.Regards Gus.

Yeah, I'm out anyway. Dackels are the unofficial official dogs of Bavaria and my Opa (grandfather) had one. They are cool dogs.
