Sorry, got to break the chain of humor, but, I am having a hard time understanding what it was that he did that was SO bad. I'm not saying that infidelity is OK because it's not. The two biggest whore-mongers as presidents in my life-time have been John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton and no one, including their administrations, found anything wrong with it, to the point of firing them. There's a hell of a lot more to it than just an extra-marital affair. Just sayin'............!

TJ, I had admired GEN Petraeus, considered him to be among the very top of the Army's senior leaders, and am very disappointed. What he did that is so bad was have an affair - a bad thing for anyone, but worse for a man in his position. When you have the highest security clearance in the land you have to be above reproach - he compromised himself and more than anything he has put a black mark on himself, the CIA, the US Government, the US Army and the USMA (Duty, Honor, Country). He hid what he was doing from the Commander in Chief (I won't get into what I think of the current one), but the director of the CIA is an appointee of the POTUS and is responsible for his conduct while he serves. It is very disappointing; when you accept national level positions and are entrusted with the security of the USA you simply must remain above reproach - there is no other way, and he knew that and has known that since his West Point days. That is why members of the Armed Forces, and especially high ranking officers, normally have more respect from the public than political leaders - the high standards they adhere to - the General has broken faith with those ideas and has hurt himself and the institutions he stood for. It is simply sad. In addition it appears that LTC Broadwell has knowledge far beyond her level of "need to know" (which is in addition to the level of your security clearance) - I think criminal charges could possibly result. OH

I agree with all you say, but the problem I'm having is why his affair is any worse than those commited by JFK and BC? The president surely has a security clearance higher than anyone else.

I gotta agree with ya here TJ. JFK and Bill were pretty randy to say the least. As for the General, gorsh a horny soldier, go figure.

I certainly think that we have better uses for our top military officials than tabloid fodder. A lot of very important things are getting pushed aside so that the real housewives and muckrakers can get their fix of sordid trash. But hey, it's only important if the media says so, right?

I certainly think that we have better uses for our top military officials than tabloid fodder. A lot of very important things are getting pushed aside so that the real housewives and muckrakers can get their fix of sordid trash. But hey, it's only important if the media says so, right?

Morally you are right. But the POTUS is granted their security clearance by the people (Constitution). By military rules and regulations neither Bill Clinton nor Barak Obama would have ever been granted the lowest level security clearance (Confidential); Clinton due to his unexplained trip to Moscow, USSR as a student in England (and other associations) and Obama due to many, many unsettling issues (i.e., questions on his citizenship, associations with know subversives, etc.), however the people of the USA "voted' these two men their clearances and access. Everyone else; Soldiers, civilian government employees, government contractors, and political appointees must meet the standards as issued by the military, the CIA or the FBI, etc., as applicable to receive or keep their clearance. OH

If need be things can be discounted, swept under the rug and people can be silenced and or discredited. Especially at this level. Makes me wonder what else is going on other than diverting attention from the benghazi investigation and and all of the other pressing issues Will they be the scape goat for benghazi or something else yet to be brought to light? It stands to reason and would give potus and others a pass.
