D.P. Hunter.
Got your package today. Where is the P.O.S.? I don't think that the Schrade U.S.A. or the Hammer Brand would qualify.
The Schrade+ has solid brass liners and bolsters, with beautiful wood scales.
The old knife that you thought was German is a Hammer Brand. It was made by the New York Knife Co. Walden N.Y. Made between 1880 and 1931. It has brass liners, solid nickel silver bolsters, split back spring, jigged bone scales, carbon blades,'bomb' shield and a great patina. This knife is right up my alley!! I just love these old fellas with a great history!!
If your sending these out in a knife swap I would love to take a gander at your keeper rolls.

Thanks again.

Well patch - I do have a very nice collection - err accumulation that is - and my knife room is something to see. If you're ever up from FLA come on by. I do have some real POSes from our old shop hanging around - cheap-o rough riders and marbles crapola - but I usually use those to give away to charity events and I wouldn't inflict them on a fellow knife lover -- that is unless they're named junebug : ) - glad you liked what I sent, and thanks for clearing up that little mystery of the old knife - I knew it was pretty old and it certainly cost a few pennies more than $20 - I thought you might like them, and that's why they were passed along.

By the way - the majority of my serious collection are whittlers - the Hammer knife was interesting with its split back spring - but at the time I brought it I was much more interested in the bone - it has wonderful old bone scales.

Oh, ya think so, huh?

Well let me tell ya. Come Monday when Chet gets the package I sent, for those who are even the slightest bit confused about the definition of POS, SCHOOL IS IN SESSION!! Watch and learn the true meaning of POS as Chet scoops out the contents of the box I sent. BAM!! Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!

Oh, Chet. You poor naive child. You don't know the half of it. I pray for your eternal soul. ::pray:: Why I would do something like this to a friend? I have no idea. There must be something dark and evil living deep inside me and it just came out.

One other thing. Just remember pal, you asked for it.

That has got to be the longest no "periods" sentences I've ever read. And it wasn't easy to read either. WOW. It's like you have to read everything twice to see where the "." should go and a new sentence should start.

I'm tired.

I would give you a preview but I don't want you leaving town before it plops on your door step. Just thinking of your wife and kids. :)
