Hehe, got a new toy!

I've never been a deer hunter, but for a while I've wanted a Marlin 336 pre safety of course. Well today I went down to my lgs and took an old Browning A5 light twelve that I'd traded around for (had about $50 in it). That and $50 more got me this 61-62 model Marlin 336 SC .35 Remington in about 90% condition.

No rust, almost no blueing loss, great wood, smooth as silk, and tight as a drum. It must have set in someone's closet most of it's life because it had dust on it. I'm tickled to death. Might even take up deer hunting next year. Woo Hoo! Sorry, just had to get it off my chest.

The 35 Rem is great deer round but I've gotta ask are you planning on reloading? I can't even remember the last time i saw it in my lgs.

Oh, if it stays long I'll reload. My lgs does carry the ammo too. I haven't tried the local Walmart, but they just might as well, they do carry AR's.

But yeah, I'd like to load for it. Some .357 pistol bullets would make for some nasty varmint rounds!

That is a nice one Col! It looks like the long barrelled, pistol grip config., which is less commonly seen. The pistol bullets make economical varmit/plinking ammo, and hopefully they feed from the magazine okay. I like the Speer 180FP that they have made for years, for deer. I only use my .35 when it rains or snows too hard to keep a scope clean, but if I used it more, I would try some of these.

Thanks Bret. I know next to nothing about deer rifles. All I knew was that I wanted a pre safety marlin. I had no idea I'd run up on a .35 as they aren't real common here. But when I saw it in the rack I knew it was something that deserved attention.

It almost too nice to make it a shooter. There is one scratch on the barrel and that's it, it even has all the bluing on the corners.

What length should the barrel be? I haven't measured this one yet.

I looked at your picture again, and I think I do see the front sight? If so, that looks like a carbine, 20"bbl. I can only go by what I see around here, and that is maybe 90% straight grip, full length magazine, and 10% pistol grip 1/2 mag 24"bbl's. I don't see many 20" pistol gripped guns around here.
