Mascot is Javelina's....they called us "Hoggies" for short.

Hello Gents,

So last Friday, a long awaited arrival of 11 months in duration came in. I had a empty space in the safe set aside patiencely awaiting the arrival.

A liitle background and a pic. We have material items that we associate with a loved one that have passed on. Knives and guns from that hunting or fishing trip with Dad or Grandpa, etc. Not that we would not have the memories without it, but when you see or handle that item, all the memories come rushing back.

This is the case with the following gun in the posted pic. My Dad and I for about 10 years every other weekend would get together to go target shooting with some light fun competitiveness mixed in. As he got older and I moved hundreds of miles away, those times got fewer and fewer. Nonetheless, great memories.

We would be in the garage at the family garage the night before, Mom cooked a great dinner of course, reloading the ammo for the next day's trip to the range. We used a single stage reloading press. This was in mid 80's, not sure if they even made multi stage/one pull reloaders then but anyway, it took abit of times to load 200 rounds.

What great memories and the associated conversations between son and Father while we reloaded, not to mention at the range the next day. Dad passed at the first of this year. I found out a few years prior when I went to visit that he had given the gun that we used at the range, a COLT Python .357, to my brother in law. He said he liked it, my Dad said "It's yours", just the way the man was. He had lots of guns but this one was special as we both spent lots of time looking down the barrel at the range. To say the least, I was a little heart broken as I always wanted to have that gun. Even so, I kept my mouth shut.

After he passed, I explained to my sister the background of the gun and she said that her husband would be happy for me to have it. And now I am. Very thoughtul and gracious gesture.

Here are the 2 revolvers I have that were my Dad's.

Top gun in the pic is the six inch Colt .357 Python, circa 1975', we used at the range, with .38 loads. Dad had the trigger worked for target shooting. Scary short pull. Probably 3 pounds or less, if I recall correctly. Think about it going off and it does. We are talking thousands of rounds and an equal quanitity of memories.
Bottom gun is the Colt .38 DiamondBack with 4 inch barrel, circa 1968'. Nice weight and balance on this gun.

This kinda sounds stupid but I feel like a void has been filled, even though I am not really a "material" man, if you know what I mean

I really appreciate all the members here as they are good people who can appreciate things that are important in life besides our love for knives and the outdoors.

Very gracious and selfless gesture indeed. I have been blessed to have good family in my life which I am very thankful for.

I sent a nice note thanking my brother in law and will ship him a knife soon and he already has a few of my collection knives. I also sent my sister a knife as she is the one who bankrolled my Dad's and I's knife collection with a very, very generous retirement gift in dollars to my Dad. He spent every dime of that gift on our collection. We loved to pull the knives out and share them together. 1000s of memories there too. I picked up a few rare wishlist knives he wanted since then but who knows if I would have all these treasued knives without my sister's generosity, not that he was poor or anything but still.

Anyway, I appreciate that my fellow members and friends here can understand the importance of my previous post.

Hello Fellow Sportsmen,

Yesterday I turned 48.

I stole this pic off the internet but this is what my wonderful wife got me for my birthday. Not only am I blessed with a beautiful woman with a huge heart, she sure as hell knows how to buy a gift any shooting enthusiast/outdoorsman would love. Couldn't get a pic as it is snowing here.

BUSHMASTER XM-15 E2S M4. 16' barrel originally designed to accomodate mounting the M203 Grenade Launcher, according to the manual. Also says the M203 option is restriced by the ATF. Ya Think!!!!! I guess I can't have one for Christmas now. Chambered for .223 and 5.56 with a 6 position stock. Mine has a removable carry handle (different from pic as that one is fixed) so I have a rail to mount a red dot if I want. Hard carry case. She even bought me 3 PullMag 30 round clips, cleaner and oil, rags, 50 rounds each of 223 and 556. I also got a nice holster for the Python. My sister in law got me a nice Blackhawk Carbon Fiber holster for my SIG P226.

The gifts were just the icing on the cake to a great day with family. I am a very fortunate man and again, not talking about the gifts.

Hopefully I can get out this week when the weather dries up to give it a test run at the range or in the desert.

In light of the terrible tragedy in CT, I want to apologize if anyone felt I was insensitive with my posting of my birthday gift on the previous page of this thread. It was certainly not my intent to offend anyone or do the wrong thing. My wife and I were very saddened by this senseless tragedy as I am sure all of you fine people were. After a couple hours of watching the news on Friday, we just couldn't take it anymore and kept the TV off all weekend. The media saying they want to respect the families and then the next shot a microphone in the face of a little girl that survived the tragedy. I only found out today reading the paper that a very similar weapon/same manufacturer was used in the horrible incident. Orginal reports did not indicate that. Either way, my timing was terrible.

Anyway, my apologies as I clearly was not thinking and unaware of some of the associated info to this tragedy.

zp4ja, Anyone with common sense should not feel offended by your post. I agree with your take on the media coverage and understand that the firearms that were used are really not the issue. Violation of many laws must have occured during this incident but one of those laws have been in the Book for thousands of years, "Thou shall not kill (murder)"! Treefarmer

Thanks Tree Farmer! I know what you are saying. It just dawned on me today about the post and the timing. I guess I was just caught up in the moment of the wife's and families thoughtfulness.

I am considered a good man by those whom know me, but admittedly far from perfect, and with that comes an apology if you think you may offended someone, wether or not I did. Who knows maybe no one thought twice about it, maybe someone else thought WTF.

I am not part of any other forums (except one other knife forum I logged into once), don't do facebook, never tweeted,don't blog, etc, etc.
Point being that I have stuck around here due to the great members and our shared hobby.

Common sense or not, I thought I would post just in case as I like the members here. I appreciate your post and support.

I'm a proud gun owner and not shy about it nor do I apologize for it. I am glad I got it as I am sure a revised ban of some sort is in/will be in the works, wheter it flys or not.

I totally agree Phil. Pretty sad about this tragedy and the fact that this will be used to further agendas that impact our rights due to some wack jobs actions.
