Thanks for that Jerry. Though we don't have the E-15 here, it will certainly end up here. Let's just hope that all gasoline doesn't go that way.

I'm no mechanical or chemical genius but I'm finding it a little hard to swallow that by adding 5% more ethanol to the gas (today's gas is E-10), it's going to ruin your engine. Someone please explain that to me in really small simple words.

It (ethanol) destroys rubber, gaskets and some plastics.. And dont let it spill down the side of your car.. Some paints too.. On the older (Pre 70s) It will ruin the carbs and fuel pumps too!! ETHANOL BAD!!!!! Motorcycles ,lawn mowers, snow blowers etc...John

Jerry, it is hell on small engines, especially older ones from the pre-ethanol era - I screwed up an old Craftsman push mower and I ruined an older Toshiba gas engine leaf blower using ethanol gasoline - didn't even know about the issue until I bought a new Husqvarna gas blower and started receiving informative e-mails from Husqy. Thanks to the e-mails I was able to salvage my old Craftsman chainsaw. I had to have my old Craftsman lawn tractor reworked (about $200.00 - ruined the old Carb.) NOW I know to put Marine grade Stabil in my small gas cans, buy only premium gas for small gas engines, and buy much less (you don't want to store the 10% long at all - as it ages it separates). Check out Husqvarna's website - it will open your eyes to 10%, I'm sure 15% is even worse. OH

Thanks Colonel and all others who commented on this. I repeat myself when I say I learn something on AAPK almost daily.

I guess I've been caviler about the subject because I've always bought what ever "gas" was least expensive for my lawnmower, snow blower and chainsaw. Stored it until used up and bought more. Never used Stabil in my bike, car, lawnmower, snow blower or chainsaw and no problems ever made me skeptical. (post flood problems were not the fault of the gas)
