Question on Case 6233 pen

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

I've got a 64-69 Case red bone 6233 and a 2000 6233 Delrin. The older knife has a single backspring supporting both blades, making for a very slim, trim profile for carrying. The later model has two backsprings, one for the master blade and one for the smaller pen blade. This knife is significantly fatter than the older one. Anyone know why and when Case made this change to the 6233? Just curious.

It was sometime in the 90's but not sure exactly when.
