This knife belonged to my father's father...I only got to visit him once, so it's pretty special to me.



This knife was my dad's EOD kit in the USAF. He had modified the sheath before by removing the stone pocket, so when he gave it to me, I made a replacement for it

Hey Glenn, what can you tell me about the lineman's pouch? It doesn't look like it has any stamping on the outer flap. Is it military or commercial? Know the date?

I'll have to get it out and check it, but it's definitely military issue. My dad used to have that whole rig strapped together, including the blasting cap container. That's why the stone pocket was missing on the sheath.

I'll see what I can find on it...

Not a problem Glenn, I'd forgotten all about it. My fasteners are "Star Pulls" but that is the only difference. I'm glad to see that some of the pouches were unmarked. When was your dad in the USAF?

He retired in 1977 as a TSgt. from EOD. Spent some time over in Korea also.

I served in the USAF also, but only for a 4-year hitch.

It sounds then that the kit that I have, Camillus TL-29 w/four line stamp (WWII era), the pliers and the pouch was a put-together kit except, the Star Pull snaps on the pouch are correct for WWII era along with the Lift the Dot. From what I've read, there is no telling how old the kit will be when it is issued because, initially, they made so many of them. I guess the mystery continues, but at least I know that they did make unmarked pouches for the military. Thanks Glenn

I have a number of knives I consider "priceless." Most of them are ones given to me by someone who meant a lot to me, or they belonged to family members who have passed away.

One of my priceless knives is this little Al Mar Osprey. It was given to me about 1984 by Al Mar himself. I was picking up an order of knives from his office and he asked me if I had one of his knives yet. I replied I had not been able to afford one as I had just returned to work from a back injury and and there was no knife money in the family budget.
Al said, "Well, it is about time you had one." He reached under the counter and pulled out the box and handed it to me and said, "Now you have one."
I was stunned!

i found this when i was 13 in Ca. under the back seat of Buick from New York . EDCd for 30 sumpin years and still have it today . i`ve mangled the crap out of it as a kid just to keep it in service , to me it`s priceless , to the people that robbed my house and stole all my knives it was trash seein as they left it behind .

Ya it does .... the spring was broke on this at the time so.... it got thrown on the floor . Honestly i`m real glad that it was left behind as it has a ton of memories attached

Here are a couple more of my priceless knives.
The first is a Schrade 34OT, that belonged to my (paternal) grandfather. He used that knife all the time making maple burl clocks in his later years. He picked the bark out of the burl with his knife and dental pics. It has the clip blade modified to a Wharncliffe, something seen frequently on the knives of guys who whittle.
I doubt the knife would bring $10 on ebay (on a good day) but I wouldn't take $1000 for it!

I can still see him setting at his work bench using that knife to pick the bark out of maple burls. I have a maple burl clock he made and a set of maple burl book ends from him as well.

This knife & hatchet were also made by my grandfather. They were probably made close to 100 years ago, when he worked in a foundry. He used the hatchet when he cruised timber for the CCC during the Great Depression. The knife was one my dad used for years when I was young. I have seen many deer field dressed with that little knife. It was probably made from a planer blade or a file.

The hatchet is not mine, yet. My dad has left instructions that it goes to me when he is done with it.

Incidentally, the background for the picture of the knife & hatchet is a quilt crocheted by my grandmother.
