If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

PA Pittsburgh GUNSMITH School

Post by ConservativeKnives »

Hey guys,

Is anybody here from the Pittsburgh area? ::shrug::

I'm looking at traveling to Pittsburgh after I graduate and live there while going to this school.

It looks very promising as they offer 2500 hours :shock: of hands-on training in gunsmithing, welding, woodworking, and machining.

16 months of 8-4:30, Monday-Friday is a pretty involved school schedule for sure. ::nod:: This will be 16 months of working, working, working!!

I must supply 35 firearms to do routine work on all by myself (the largest obstacle in this school). I am thinking that I should try to set something up with a local gun shop such as them advertising free gunsmithing through their store. It would be a win-win for everybody involved. More traffic to the shop, free work for the customers, and guns for the students to work on.

If that doesn't work out, I figure I should start getting some friends from this area so I can fix some of your guns :lol:

Matt from CT ::handshake::

We are about an hour north of there. I think most of the gunsmiths around here came from that school. 35 guns is a lot. I wonder if you can buy and sell as you go? I can think of a broken firing pin, and a broken spring that I haven't gotten around to fixing. I have a couple damascus doubles that need rust browning if you get into that? I might come up with more jobs if I look around....

I live about 25 minutes south of PGH and I grew up in the city itself and even work there now.
I also have a 32 with a broken hammer spring that needs replaced. Pm me with what info you need.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I still have 2 years of H.S. but I am thinking it may be smart to get some friends in the area before I attend the school!

I think I can buy and sell the guns as I go, but it sounds like a big hassle. I might end up doing that as a last resort though. I am planning on visiting the school sometime this year to check out the area and school itself(and the 8 hr one way drive :()

When I attend, I'll contact all of you for sure.

Thanks!
