Knife repair shop in Los Angeles - Gigand by Fred Carter

Hello,

Back sometime in the 1990's, I purchased a Gigand knife designed by Fred Carter. See the attached pic.

I don't know much about it, other than I've always really liked the knife. After several years, the knife has become worn, missing some screws, and covered in some weird sticky substance. Nothing too surprising, of course.

Anyway, I'd like to get it reconditioned (repaired, cleaned up, sharpened, etc.). Can anyone recommend a shop (or person) in the Los Angeles area that does this? Or, in lieu of locality, a place/person I could ship it to for getting the work done?

So, You like the Gigand after several years? Good, I have a few but never used them and wanted to hear from a user (a review) if they actually worked as a tool.
My Advice on most Asian imports that are put together with screws is that the buyer should assume the knife is going to fall apart screw by screw So the first thing to do after purchasing one is to back each screw out and hit it with a tiny bit of superglue or silicone and quickly screw back in. The screws on that Gigand of yours are so tiny and shallow that if you can locate some and get them screwed in without losing them you'll be doing good. I advise you to work over a clean table or workbench with a towel on it to help catch the screws and magnetic screwdrivers wouldn't hurt and plenty of light. good luck
Whoops, missed your point there.I DON'T KNOW ANYONE... But, I think that if you can find the screws you can clean it and repair it yourself. If that main blade pivot screw is stripped out then it may be all over for that knife and time to move on. 20 years of service from a cheap Taiwanese knife is more than I would ever expect. Had you superglued those screws who knows how long it would have lasted you
