I "made the mistake" of shooting my brothers brand new Glock 21 on Sunday. That was my first experience at shooting a Glock and I'll have to say it did shoot well. I'm still not ready to run out and buy myself one. Other than it being butt ugly, it wasn't bad.
Yeah Phil. I'm a feared that if I brought one of them home, my S&W 65 might just shoot me for putting it in the drawer with something that looks like that, lol.

Maybe it is just me but trusting my life to a brand new $175 to $200 handgun just doesn't sound like a good idea. I assume something is being sacrificed if they are that inexpensive. My 2 cents. To each his own.

Actually the HiPoints work great and with the pinned barrel are very accurate. The problem with them is that they are a blowback design (keeps the price way down) so you need to lock the elbow and no limp wristing. In a self defense sittuation I'd imagine how that'd work for me.
I was a glock hater too so I opted for the Smith and Wesson Sigma, the one where Smith copied the glock and got sued.
Its been a great gun for me.
My retirement shall consist of carbon steel, cheese, and crackers.
I'm not a Hi-Point fan, but have to acknowledge that for what they are--a low-cost defense handgun--they meet a need. For some folks, putting together enough money to buy a firearm that many of us might prefer just isn't an option. (I know a number of retired folk on fixed incomes who have chosen them, for the simple reason that they can afford them.) Others just aren't "into" guns, and while they feel the need to have one available, they don't have any desire for the "whistles and bells" some of us might want.
They are ugly. They are so ugly they make a Glock look good. They have a balance that I find unpleasant. Due to the blowback design, the amount of force required to draw back the slide is fairly high (and this is coming from a man who routinely used 27# and heavier springs in a 1911). The older folks I know who use one tend to keep a round in the chamber to avoid having to draw the slide back.
But they work, and they are tougher than you'd think. Once broken in, the ones I've messed about with or seen have been fairly reliable (averaging about 2-3 stoppages of one type or another per 500 rounds). I've seen one in 45 take 2k+ rounds of 45 Super loads without a hitch, and I know of a nine that has been fed a steady diet of surplus ball for more than ten years (50 rounds every month, so somewhere over 6,000 rounds).
They aren't a Sig, or even a Glock, but they aren't exactly an FP-45 Liberator either.
Let me just say, I'm not a Glock hater. Personally, I can't hate a gun I've never fired and only handled one time. That one time left a less than positive impression, thus my negative opinion. Some people love 'em and I have no argument with them. They're just not for me.
As for the Hi-Point, I bought it (I think) 15-20 years ago because it was cheap and I wanted a 9mm in my tiny arsenal. Just because. Every time I've shot it (which hasn't been a bunch) it's performed flawlessly and it's as accurate as I am. Were we permited to CC in The Great State Of Chicago, this would not be it. It's bulky and a bit unwieldy but for that special place in my home where it lays in wait, it's just fine. Would I trust my life with it? Yes but let's hope it's never tested.
My dream hand gun for home defense is a Judge. For carry (I think), if it ever becomes legal here, it would be a Sig Sauer P239 in .40S&W. At least that's what I think I'd like. I've never handled or shot a Sig. I just like their looks and they have a good reputation.

Years ago I had an older hunting buddy who owned nearly the same rifle; very accurate - he shot plenty of deer "way out there" at 250 - 300 yards with his. I don't know who ended up with it after he passed (parachute accident) but it was a sizzler. OH

Hey Rick__Bought 555 rounds 22LR for $66 & 50 rds of 380 for $21___first thing Saturday morning,before the general public entered__ammo was still pretty high !!!!!__lots of price dropping Sunday__saw a guy mark down 9mm from $30 per box(50) to $20 per box(50)__ didn't have time to check much pricing,but I think prices will be back to normal before long

Well, I won't say this past Saturday was perfect, but it was damn close. I got to test drive my new Remington Versa Max (love it) on the Sporting Clays course in the morning (got 49 out of 100 ) , then we drove over to my buddies house to shoot .22s at targets. We set up some saw horses with balloons, eggs, targets, etc and then played H-O-R-S-E. You called your shot - if you made it, the guy behind you had to duplicate the shot with the same gun. After that we had a crawfish boil and a few beers in his "Cantina". What a blast - good times with old friends.

I shot a buddies glock 30 a while back, he had some of the kriss mag extensions that allow it to hold 30 rounds. I could not for the life of me make that thing jam and the accuracy was there too. I wouldn't mind having one in 10mm or .45 and another in a carbine conversion if I could find one priced reasonably.
Put my blind up yesterday and got my shotgun and gear out and loaded in the truck - opening day is Saturday - got to tick-treat my hunting clothes and I will be ready. Going to hunt combination style this year - out in the open for fly-down, then in the blind for later in the day (vs. run and gun). Saw two huge Tom's yesterday near where I put the blind.

Found this in the yard the other day gotta be pretty old has leather wad attached with a Phillips head screw--guessing it had something to do with the wife's grandfather he was heavy into reloading he's been gone since early 80's I can't remember ever seeing a slug like this--
