Phil -- I too enjoy seeing how things are made. Do you remember a show geared towards kids that aired on Saturday morning back in 1970? It was about how things were made and what made things 'tick'. I was in my late 20s but I was still watching Saturday morning cartoons and even though it wasn't a cartoon, I sure liked Hot Dog.

"Hot Dog is a Saturday morning documentary series for children, seen on NBC from September 12, 1970 to September 4, 1971. Created by Frank Buxton and co-produced by Buxton and Lee Mendelson, the program was notable for its hosts -- Jo Anne Worley, comedian Jonathan Winters and writer and actor Woody Allen. The pilot was televised on NBC March 28, 1970, which starred Worley, Allen and Tom Smothers, who was replaced with Winters when the show became a series.

Based on Buxton's travels as a comedian (and later, as host of the ABC series, Discovery), which took him on tours to various factories, Hot Dog explained, in a humorous manner, how we do things (such as snore) and how things were made (such as the eponymous hot dogs and their buns, plus condiments like mustard).

I still enjoy shows like that Jerry. "Modern Marvels", "Made In America", and others, one with a title something like How's It Made or some such. I watch way more informative shows than series etc., always have.

Surprised that intrusive organization,OSHA, hasn't stepped in though. There's not a speck of safety equipment in sight, other than the skills of the people involved.

Spinning wheels, belts, pounding trip hammer type devices, loose clothing and long hair.

i didn't notice any missing fingers though.

Where I came from, they used to dock dogs tails. Did it when they were puppies. Don't ask me why because I don't know. I was too young to question it so just accepted it as part of life and that's the way things were done.

Yeah, I undertsand bobbing or docking a dog's tail. My Uncle Jack did that to his Red Bone Hounds. Never understood why.

With all those spinning belt driven wheels, meshing gears, etc., I just wondered if the dog had not let his tail stray into something it shouldn't. His tail isn't exactly bobbed, it's just short.
