Dinner (lunch for the yankees) time in Kentucky

Well fellers, I'm General Baptist myself. But I'm pastoring an old time Methodist Church where everybody just about has Baptist roots. So I call em Methobapticostal.

You know they have to be baptist at heart because we eat every Wed. night. I'm talking old fashioned dinner on the grounds eating complete with chocolate pie, butterscotch pie, and banana puddin. All made from scratch too.

Well now I can believe that. The two greatest Baptist sins are speeding and eating, but with grub like that who wouldn't sin once in a while, especially on Wed. night.

Lol, TJ, I tell my folks that my theory on church growth is that an eating church is a growing church. Either new people will come in, or we'll take up more room on the pews and it'll look more full.

Nah, we preach a simple message at Old Zion. Get right, live right, and die right.
Be born again, live out your salvation, and bring as many with ya to the cross as ya can.

C-26 -- My daddy was an evangelistic General Baptist preacher from the time he was 14 years old. His was a fire and brimstone, bible beatin', hard preachin' sweatin' in the winter time style of preaching. It was like he was preaching at an old time tent revival, every Sunday morning, every Sunday evening and every Wednesday night at prayer meeting. He moved over to Freewill Baptist in his later years. I asked him one time what the difference was between General Baptist and Freewill Baptist and he said "politics".

One of my best friends is from North Dakota and was raised a Methodist. I asked him what the Methodists believe in and he said, "casseroles". He says their home church was The First Church of the Casserole. Maybe that Methodist influence was where your regular supper in the yard came from.

Nothing like an all day singing with dinner in the yard to expand your image.

In the little rural community I was raised in, there were three churches: a missionary Baptist, a General Baptist, and the Methodist church I now pastor. The thing is they are all still mainly comprised of the same 6 or so families.

Back in the day they all had service on alternating Sundays too, so everybody went to all three. Normally what happended is that folks joined which ever one they were saved in. We preached in each others pulpits, had revivals together, and doctrinally we all disagree on a couple of secondary issues but nothing dealing with salvation.

After I left my home church to go pastor other places I quickly found out its not that way everywhere. Sad.
