Of course those were depression years prices and there wasn't much money around then. My dad told me when he got married in 1937 (or was it 1938) he didn't have a job. The day he and mom married he stopped by this guys house and got a job paying a dollar a day with a house to live in and a meat hog every year.

When I got out of the Corps in '66, I could buy Levis at Rockford Dry Goods for $2.98 a pair. That was shrink to fit. Of course I only made $75 a week. I brought home $62.44 after taxes and my half of the rent was $62.50 (shared a one bedroom apt. with my 3rd cousin)

Ahh, the good old days.
