A bit of oil makes a difference

I purchased a knife lot of Ebay and in the lot was a Western Boulder.It has Western Boulder Colo Made in the USA on the tang stamp.The spear blade is worn out the other three in very good order.
I just put some oil on the handle and cleaned the bolsters.All the blades have good snap.I consider it a very well built knife.

So oil's the secret, eh? I've scrubbed and scrubbed at that white substance on handles with no results. I wonder what that white stuff is. Does Delrin oxidize?

Jerry I just use a synthetic engine oil on a rag and rub a bit it seems to clean and polish the Delrin

I think that's a bone handled knife Jerry. You're probably talking about the white stuff on Delrin??

Boy, I don't know T.J. It's only a picture but up close, that sure looks like Delrin to me. Plus the only time I've ever seen that white stuff, it was on Delrin. Of course I don't have much experience with bone handles so I'm certainly no expert. Grant has the knife in hand. Let's ask him what the handle material is.

It's Delrin.
I wish it was bone.
I have use oil on some Old Timers with Delrin and it seems to brings back the colour ( color ).

Ya baby oil works good when that happens--don't know what turns them white like that

Derlin is a form of plastic which can oxidize.
It is caused by the Sun just like your frosted plastic headlights on your car.
I think eventually the oil on that knife will wear off and that frosted look will come back.
I would polish the handles which should permanently fix the problem.

JW is right about that coming back had to oil mine more than once but I think just heat will do it--I had it happen to knives I had left in my cabin in a drawer

THE OL' delrin dingies............

i use a synthetic MOTOR oil on them when chalky like that too....
WORKS LIKE A CHAMP!!!!

i have made it happen on accident once on a delrin knife....by washing it in the sink with WAY TOO HOT OF WATER......................WENT INSTA-WHITE..................LIL OIL AND BINGO-BANGO back ta shiney
