What you carry or what you would carry if you did and why?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

What you carry or what you would carry if you did and why?

Post by Mossdancer »

I worded the title on purpose so big bro don't get antsy.
I will carry a Two inch Chief S&W with 158 grain wadcutters. The round is heavy enough to penetrate deep enough to do its duty and expands enough to slow down and make a larger track. Will carry inside back of waist band. If I carried it in front I probably couldn't find it. I have a digital lock box that secures to seat frame. It will contain my 1911a1 with 200 grain ball. As a backup if I think needed will be what some may think a pop gun but it packs the necessary lethality with the proper ammo in a 7.65 semi auto carried in pocket with double sided leather that is not detectable.
How about you. I would urge all of you to consider one of the smaller lock boxes with a pull alarm attached for short term or travel storage.

I have a Harrington and Richardson revolver in S&W .32 Long that I keep handy. Blued, about a 2" barrel and I hope that if the s- hits the fan it will help me get to a real firearm. The nice thing about it is its size, hardly any kick, more stopping power than a .22 and not deafening. I don't have any problems shooting it without hearing protection. I also have a Kel-Tec P-11 that has a stagger-stacked 12 round mag in 9mm with a Galco inside the pocket holster, which usually stays at home. Here in VA practically everyone has concealed carry permits; $50 for a 5 year permit that as long as you submit all your paperwork for and pass the background check you will not be denied.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Great that you mentioned 9mm as I just picked up for next to nothing a Star in 9mm largo(also chambers .38acp). They pack quite a bit of powder. Near a twin to my 1911.

since you feel your male sibling who is the elder may be listening I would say for me, Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson, I prefer to have a very special thirty eight body for a guard. And for the party it would come complete with laser lighting, possibly red. But, to feed Mr. Smith or Mr. Wesson, well let's just say you need some ftx food from that Horn company Ady. ::sotb::

All of the ones mentioned sound like winners to me. The only one I would not use would be any without a hammer. I am just old fashioned and want to know when the rounds are ready to go boom. Another question, considering excitement, adrenaline flow your environment darkness wind etc., what point of aim would be your intention when you let off #1?
moss
edit: I neglected to say inside of 15 feet. That is my circle that you shall not enter. 5 Yards is close enough, yelling and screaming stop. Always save a couple for what may be coming from behind or to the side. Sometimes it just may not be your day, you can only do what you can.

Just a consideration, ever think of trying some of these:
9mm - 147 gr JHP Hi Shok - Federal - 1000 Rounds
72.9¢ per round
Quantity - 50 rounds per box; 20 boxes per case
Manufacturer - Federal
Bullet - 147 grain jacketed hollow-point (JHP)
Casing - Boxer-primed brass
Five of these rounds inside a silver dollar would make a hole you could put a billy club in. The 735 grains of lead would do totally lethal damage and still leave a few for any compatriots the A**hole might have with him. Only a thought. You ain't no good to family if one of them gets to you.

I understand and will say though that the lighter round is flying so fast even being a HP it will probably go all the way through. The target will be well vented with 17 125 grain HP's through and through. Please take what I say with a grain of salt as it was and is only a suggestion. Your neighbors would probably rest easier were they to know you used a shotgun for home defense. As the only walls to be repaired would be yours.

Hey Guys,

Lots of good suggestions here! I don't give a crap about big bro as I am sure he is looking past the title of this thread at the contents. Not paranoid, just reality. Glad he does that myself as I am a law abiding citizen.

No offense intended to anyone but if a cheap gun jams, it means diddly what the ammo used is. I see posts on other forums of makers I have never heard of, not that I am a expert or anything. I have heard of the low jam results on a 2 to 3 hundred dollar peacemaker before. Only one in 200 rounds fired. One too many for me. No jams in 10 thousand plus rounds that I have personally fired rounds is the one for me. After all, we are talking safety and reliabilty here. And yes, I have personally done this on a single SIG 9mm P226 before, all original parts, just proper maintenance . Still going strong on that one. Cost a bit to get there though for gun and ammo to personally test, but I can say I did not read it on the internet. Just like knives, I prefer to wait and save for a quality one rather than buy three lesser quality ones equaling total value spent for the one I bought, but to each his own.

As far as punching thru the neighbors wall, good point. Have many to go to but also have the hand .410 handy in the S&W Governer for that. Also the less expensive option in the Taurus Judge. Multiple options on rounds there from .410 (numerous options from pellets, 000 Buckshot, flying discs and pellets) to .45 Long Colt to .45 Auto.

Safeties on the peacemaker is another topic. I prefer none or minimal on my slide guns as I feel it gives the handler a false sense of security and leads to more accidental shootings. Don't know of any on a revolver except one empty cyclinder or totally unloaded. If you happen to be a snake handler, are you more likely to handle a defanged deadly rattlesnake with less care than the same deadly rattlesnake with fangs? Of course! As long as you know if it has fangs or not. If not, you will treat both as deadly! Same analogy can be used for many dangerous undertakings. The disposal guy that drew the short straw and I am not talking about trash disposal. But that is for another thread.

Sorry for the rant, just passionate about this topic and I do respect different viewpoints and decisions.

My 2 cents to the post subject question. Jerry

Thanks, you know it I know it and my biggest wish would be that everyone knew it. Safety first foremost and always, cant stress it enough. Thanks for the agreement on the neighbors.
Those Sig Sauers are great, have been hinting for a 220 in .45 from Admiral Whitebeard in December. Owned a Sauer once along time ago before they dropped the and son and added the Sig.
Junebug: Tough but Ca. State permits are possible and expensive. Take a long time to get with massive hurdles along the way. If you are clean, have the money and a valid in their opinion need they can be had(this was of a few months ago, but knowing politicians it could have changed). Moved out of the big prune 35 years ago myself. As an aside I worked at the Tagus Ranch while in High School for spending ducats. Steinbeck made it known. My parents made the trek during the depression.

Oh hey, by the way. if you are interested in not punching thru 9 walls or possibly a wall if you need to, frangible bullets are a choice one can make.

The treehuggers I am sure love it as it is the "green bullet". I do love the environment and the outdoors but you have to draw the line somewhere. A bullet that could disentegrate when I don't want it to is not for me.

Personally not interested.

My daily edc:
A small slip joint from my rotation.
A larger folder either pocket clipped or my Opinel 12.
Blackhawk pepper spray.
A Ruger LCR eight shot 22lr revolver (weighs nothing!).

If it were a truly free country i'd be wearing two .44 Schofields in a custom leather cross draw rig. ::nod::
My retirement shall consist of carbon steel, cheese, and crackers.
