First attempts

I am wanting to get into knife making and modding pretty bad. But with the lack of some tools these are my first attempts at rehandleing and putting handles on some knives. The first picture is a rough rider, I didn't want to use a good knife until I have this down pat. I used g-10 for these and hope to try some bone soon. The other two are blade blanks I bought and added 5 layer orange/black g-10 I like these the most and am thinking of using the "fat boy" skinner when I go hunting this year because I like the looks of it so much. All the work was done with a dremel and sandpaper. Any pointers or feedback would be great like I said it was my first tries so I know there are many pointers I could use.

Josh,
I like the look you got on the handles of the first fixed blade.
The contouring of the handle made a nice looking pattern. (hope you wore a respirator, the fiberglass in the G-10 is not good for the lungs).

You did pretty good for a first attempt.
The learning curve on knives starts to flatten out after 200-300 knives.
The first 20 knives or so have the steepest learning curve.

Only 197 more and I'll be pretty good at it hopefully. But i did use a respirator, i started with a simple dust mask but that didn't work too well. I think i need to stick with fixed blades for a while though, i think traditional folders ate a little too involved for my novice abilities at the moment. But I'm hooked though with taking a knife and making it my own. I'm a huge orange fan if you can tell so now hopefully i can grow my collection. But thanksI am looking forward to modding and hopefully making many more soon

If you don't mind Josh, I will suggest a couple books on knife making & repair.

The first is "Knife Repair & Restoration" by Adrian Harris.
This is the only book I am aware of that is still in print about repairing pocket knives.

On making knives and making tools to use in knife making, Wayne Goddard's book, "The $50 Knife Shop" is a must in my opinion.

"The Wonder of Knifemaking", 2nd Edition by Wayne Goddard:

Wayne's books are more focused on fixed blades than folders.

Thanks for the advice, just bought all of them now just have to wait for them to show up. Thanks again I've seen your work and hope to one day be able to do as good of a job as you do on knives. I just have to be patient.
