Schrade favorites

Some of my favorites, I think that the 896K may be at the top of the list. Some of you will likely decry the Ulster as not a true Schrade, but it does after all say "old timer"...and then there is my every day carry 34OT bought with money from my 12th birthday some time ago...lost and refound that one at least 4 times that I recall...

The Uluster of that time where made in the same factory as the Schrade so I would call them Schrade also. Nice bunch you can't beat them ot for the steel in the blad it is great stuff.

I am rather fond of the 165 fixed blades. Here is a rare bird, serialized #00201, first week of manufacture for sure, and possibly FIRST DAY, 1969.

Those are very nice. I have a few fixed blades myself, found a nice clean 165 OT from probably late 70's, I would like to run across the same version with the SW tang stamp or may an Uncle Henry. Anyone know when they went from schrade to schrade+

Waggo's knife is indeed an 896K. The "K" is a holdover from the pre-1947 days, and it meant "brown-lined cream celluloid." And that is Waggo's color. Most collectors know this common old color as "butter & molasses." However, his knife appears to be the later version, which was in Delrin instead of celluloid, and would be more opaque in appearance. The "M" meant "marine pearl celluloid." I have not seen a knife with the "M" stamp. Now then, Schrade Walden also made some of these with the "barnwood" Delrin covers like on Shearer's knife, and just used the same stamp, I guess. ??? I would think they could have just as well stamped it as an 895 (the 825 was the stainless version).

tongueriver is right about your knife.I checked when I purchased a "butter & molasses." . I was told it was a 896M.I just checked and it's a 896K ( caught again ).
There is one on Ebay and they are saying it has bone handles.???

I have one of the older celluloid 896K's as well, the colors on those are more vibrant and random, it seems like the delrin all looks the same. never seen that model in bone

Here is a Schrade Walden 896K in cell. Blade etch is strong but doesn't show up well on bright blade in my scanner. This knife is unused. The etch is OUR VERY BEST, in a cartouche, centered within much larger font OVB, and 1249Y.

And here is the pattern (later also in Delrin) in bone. It is called the 895.

When they started making them stainless, they called them an 825 (some bone, some Delrin). When they made Uncle Henrys out of them they became the 897UH. And the Old Timer is the 98OT. All the same knife, different covers & (sometimes) different steel.
