Seller calling them what they are
Here is a seller that is calling them what they are. Much to his credit. Lets hope the new owners are as honest about them as this seller is. It will be interesting to see what they sell for.
These are different from the myrtlefakes we see but still there are too many fakes of this type out there that collectors are paying for.
Let's have some discussion about what gives these away as counterfeits.

Too ugly to talk about. And to think, I flushed a Case Tested 6185 with all true Case parts down the toilet because someone either sanded or ground the pattern number off of the tang

Saw this fella's offerings over the weekend. He had a truckload of appaloosa bone Case, all kind of colors!

Re: Seller calling them what they are
What's sad is that people are buying these.
I would like to think that any true collector would not buy these.
In my opinion I think the only reason that someone has bought one is to turn around and try to sell it as real.

Interesting that all five of these POS were purchased by the same buyer. I do give the seller credit for disclosure but still think it is very wrong to sell fakes, disclosed or not. Just one man's opinion...

If they were marked in some way to show that they are not original I wouldn't have a problem but now they will be back out there to snooker the less knowledgeable

Re: Seller calling them what they are
hmmm… that makes it hard to give credit to a sellers honesty if the seller is always stocked up with the put2frankenfakes honestly described to the buyer but also the source of what this forum would like to have eradicated. Like the gardener at the tree of knowledge waiting with fruit in hand ready to spark temptation within an unground, unfound or unsound spirit
… Ok, nothing like that at all really though I could have ran with it making for some funny and confusing reading bound for the delete button …
Well it just goes to show, your damned if you do and damned if you don't reveal the truth about knives with certain kinds and amounts of work done to them. But something we have to think about is the amount of these that may be purchased to the unknowing as legit and stashed in a safe for 20,30,40 years until passed down to kids or grandkids via inheritance and possibly put into another safe for X amount of years or taken for appraisal where their hearts are broken and gramps ends up not looking very bright for investing in worthless knives even though his heart was in the right place. Imagine 100 years from now… We would think that with technology enough info will be logged that spotting fakes 100 years from now will be easy but like that wise man once said… Tomorrow never knows

The pic of the copperhead, second from the top. I've seen quite a few case fakes on here with that same jig pattern. Stands out like a sore thumb. For lack of better term, what's up with that?

It might be the default handle stock at some or one of the supply houses that they send those guys who call them asking if they have anything close to the Case XYZ era bone color and jig pattern or some guy had that bunch made up and he and some buddies are using it for obvious reasons but heck who knows?????

There is some little factory in China that is making knives to order. They don't care what name they put on them as long as they get US dollars.

It wouldn't happen to be that little factory in Solingen China would it? I thought they were going to try and be ethical and only make German knives...

Re: Seller calling them what they are
Many members of this site can tell at a glance from a distance with the blades closed that these knives are fakes but I have seen too many similar knives sell on eBay for real money (way over $100). Many a novice collector has been taken in, including a personal friend of mine taken by that canoe pattern. Given that I think it is worthwhile for the sake of those who might not be able to tell that we discuss what gives these knives away as fakes. Isn't that what this forum is for?
1.The blades on all these knives look like new stainless steel. Old knives from the Case Tested era (1920-1940) rarely are found in such new looking condition. Case XX knives form the 1940 to 1964 time frame are more commonly found in new condition but they still don't look like any of these knives.
2.The blades on all the Tested stamped knives appear to have a course crocus type finish (note the lines that run perpendicular to the blades edges. You might see this on newer stainless steel Case knives but not on an old Tested era knife.
3. Compare the knife frame and blade shapes to similar Case knives of the same pattern. You should be able to see a distinct difference with the exception of the third knife down which is a complete fantasy, nothing to compare that one to. The bolsters on the 3 blade stockman are way too long in comparison to other similar Case knives.
4. Like stated above. The bone jigging patterns are not correct for Case knives. The trapper and lock back frankenknife are particularly bad.
5. The frakenlockback has some very different color pin material showing in the bolsters. It doesn't look similar to any authentic Case knife I have ever seen. The stamp on the bolster should look ridiculous to an experienced collector but could actually help authenticate the knife to a beginner. Not sure why there is a hole on the blade for a swing guard. Did it fall off or did the maker forget to put it on? Does it also help authenticate the knife to someone hoping they have found an old swing guard CASE XX 6111 1/2 lockblade?
5. The Canoe looks different than the others in that it does look closer to a real Case knife. I don't think it has the same lineage as the others. It might be a newer Case blade that has been re-stamped (can't see enough of the etch to tell if it is a real but newer Case blade). The bone looks closer to bone found on newer Case knives. The bolsters look too pointed on the tops. Case did not etch the blades on the Canoe pattern until 1974.
6. The blade stamps look terrible even though some of the pictures are poor quality. There is much information here on this site and else wear that can tell you more about this. The fake stamp didn't even fit on the stockman blade. How about the sick looking bent E on the canoe.
I don't agree with selling knives like these. How do you think the seller came by these? Was he duped or did he buy them to resell at a profit. What will the new owner that bought them all do with them? Knives of this type should be put on the board of an educational display or thrown in the toilet like reddirtknives' 6185.

Re: Seller calling them what they are
I do not know the seller and I am about 90 miles from his location. But seeing where he is from, I will take a guess and say he his a pawn broker buying and selling strictly for profit. Booneville is located in Owsley county Ky. 2010 census shows it is the poorest county in the nation. 5000 people with no industries or mines, no hospital. Main cash crop is pot with prescription pills generating the most cash flow. County government and school the main employer. Grandpa who probably bought and collected knives died. Heirs sold them to this guy. 60 minutes and Discovery have all done segments on the poverty and lawlessness. I just glad I didn't grow up there. Have a good one.

I don't mean to get off topic, but I had a friend who collects knives, but is not an expert by any means purchase a "tested '93 toothpick" with the same bone jigging. He gave 500.00, and when he found out it was a fake, he was devastated. That's an awful lot of money to get suckered out of.

Re: Seller calling them what they are
There are only two places for fake/counterfeit knives.
1. The National Knife Museum. They have a Counterfeit display. Send them there.
2. Demolished and disposed of in the nearest irretrievable receptacle.
Unless the guy that bought all those knives intends to one of the two above, they will, eventually, reappear on the market.

But But he called them what they are…
You know, I don't know how much the lighting is effecting the bone but I kinda like that bone on the FAKE Canoe… The 2 sides don't seem to match but I kinda lke them both. The guy must be working on the famous Case terribly Matched bone knives. You guys see what is going on here. We have us a fledgling counterfeiter here that is tightening up his skills before he's nudged out of the nest and pops or whomever doesn't want to waste the better bone on him as he's not quite ready… Yeppers, We'll just keep sending these practice knives down to Billy Bob Joe Ray and have him sell what he don't want to keep fer his shop as Fake Cases so he won't have to refund so many this time since your almost ready to start using daddy's bone
