R4353 value & should I clean it

My grandpa gave me an old Remington R4353 bullet knife last night and I was just wondering what the value might be. It's in pretty good condition except for the stains(?) on the blades. Should I clean it and if so, what product should I use? Here are some pictures.

Nice knife!

Don`t try to clean it, it`s a valuable knife to a collector. Do put a little drop of oil on the joints where the blade meets the back spring to prevent wear, wipe it down and leave it alone.

For prices try searching e-bay for completed auctions of Remington knives

Yeah, don't clean it! Looks great as is, just add a bit of oil to the joints and enjoy it! A lot of history there.

Do not clean the blades. Theres a decent etch on the main blade that will surely be removed if there is any attempt at cleaning . If the knife were cleaned and nice shiny it would be a $ 400 knife, as is I would value it around $ 650.

He actually gave me about 30 old knives. I was helping him move and showed some interest in a Case knife he had so he offered them all to me. Others include Camillus, Buck, John Primble, some old timers, and a couple bayonets from WWII I think. This is the only Remington though. The Case knives I'll definitely keep.

The book value on your knife (for mint condition knives, if there ever was such a thing) is about $3,000, depending on which book you're looking at and I agree with the previous post that yours is worth around $650, more or less.

This is just a suggestion and just something to think about...You can list that knife for free on eBay - under collectables>knives, swords & blades>folding knives>vintage(pre-1970)>etc. and unless you sell it as an auction style listing with a reserve price, it will only cost about 10% once it sells plus another few points if paid by a buyer with PayPal. That may sound like a lot but 100s of collectors will see it and you'll have 20 bids or more over a 7 - 10 day auction.

However if you list it initially as a fixed price listing with a Buy it Now price of say $2000 and list it indefinitely, (Good until concluded - automatically re-lists every 30 days) that's totally free - wont cost you one cent, of course, unless someone chooses to buy your knife for the $2k and then it'll cost you about $200 and wouldn't that be awful? (but itll never happen) and after having it on display for a month or a week or a couple of days - whatever (for free) you can end that listing and then re-list your knife in an auction-style listing with the advantage of having it been seen by so many for so long.

I don't think anyone can claim to sell more vintage and antique knives than eBay, and if anyone does, shame on them, and every collector knows this and watches eBay religiously.

Nice knife, BTW - yeah don't clean it. I have an unused R4243 on eBay - been there a few months - but Im asking $2,499 and I haven't even decided if I want to sell it or not but while I'm deciding that's several months of free exposure unless, of course, someone snatches it up for the $2,499 in which case Ill just have to deal with being all broke up about it.
