show your uncle henry's

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

I think it is awesome how even though it is not real stag, each knife has it's own character as though it were. Keep them coming!

Really enjoying the pictures of your classic Uncle Henry knives (and the Craftsman variations)! Here is one of the few I own, a FONRA 897UH from a three knife set. My brother bought them off an auction at our local NRA banquet a least a decade ago, he gave me the pocketknife and kept the two bigger knives for his hunting use. OH

Thanx Eric, white handle ph1's are pretty rare. A shaw Leibowitz ph1 is also tough to find. This one came with a letter from Henry Baer's son to confirm it's from his collection. I've been looking for a ph2 with white handles with no luck. Have you any info?

Jay,

That's not a PH1, it's the Schrade Loveless knife, which the PH1 was based on. The Loveless was first, you can tell by the guard, it was much thinner than the PH guards, and was soldered on rather than pinned. Loveless insisted on this since he wanted to retain his design and not compromise (Good move OMHO). It was quite a pain so Schrade redesigned it as the Custom Hunter with wider guards that could be pinned, which then spawned the PH's. Most all of the Loveless knives came with maroon handles, there were very few made with the white handles. VERY nice score!! And from Uncle Henry's collection no less!

Here's a pic of the Loveless model:

That's a super clean knife Eric! Even the box and sheath look mint as they come. Thanx for the background info.

Great color on the handles. Always liked the darker staglon. Nice job cleaning it up, looks like you've done it a time or two.
