Schrade/Imperial Question

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Schrade/Imperial Question

Post by MikeB1953 »

Many years ago, 35 or so, I was able to buy this Imperial salesman Frontier kit. They were all the standard stock that the Frontier line made. So I thought. The case came with a 4021, 4132, 4221, 4323, 4432, 4624, 432 and what I thought was the standard 442F. Last year when I would do my yearly knife cleaning, I took a close look at the 442 and it turned out to be a 442R. I have never seen a 442R and wondered if anyone knew any history why it was either never put into the line on in for only a short time? In the pictures, I have also shown a 442F which is the standard knife that everyone knows.

Thanks
Mike

Maybe this will help Mike.
The 442R was only made in 1976.
Apparently the flexible blade was much more popular and was made from 1976-1983.

You can say that again! I'd be proud to own that set. OH

Thanks Dale, helps a bunch.

I know we are behind setting stores up but when you get caught up, going to open one. I have a number of Schrade and Imperial samples that I'll sell. this is going to be one. Was a rep for them in the early 80's and have a number of sets and "odd balls" that never made the price list for some reason.

Thanks again guys.
Great website.
Glad I found it.

I too was interested in opening a store. I see no signs of it ever happening. Thoughts, anyone?

Bryan has to get the program change over finished before that can happen.
I think he is actually ahead of schedule on it.

Speaking of which. Do you know if there are any new features in the works (can't imagine what they could possibly be) that were not part of the old site?
