Question for Schrade Afficianados

Hey, everyone,
I recently purchased my first "Schrade USA 165" and I'm curious about one feature of this knife; it has a seemingly non-factory serial number applied to the guard and to the sheath (841).
I suspect some poor shlub was given the unenviable task of striking the sequential serial numbers into the brass guards & leather sheaths. If the received shipment totaled a large quantity of knives, (1,000 + ?) I can see how it would be easy to misalign the numbered punch, as is evidenced on my knife, No. 841.
Has anyone here seen similar 165s, from 1973 onward?

Hey Bill, those stamps were not done at the factory. Schrade put there serial numbers on the blade steel. Also would have a 0 before the 8 like 0841. And they never stamped sheath. At least any sheath I have seen.

Yes, I've seen the tang-stamped serialized 165 examples.
By "poor shlub" I was referring to someone who's organization or governmental agency (Forestry Svc?) had placed the order (not a Schrade employee). I don't expect to ever know for sure but, am just taking a shot in the dark that someone may have seen something similar. I know... It's a HUGE long shot.

If I don't learn the origin, I'm still 'happy as a pig in slop' at my find!

Hi Bill,
Worked for Schrade as a salesman for years. And was thru the Ellenville plant many times. I agree with James 100%. Still is a nice Knife.

Personally, I suspected no different than you gentlemen.
Still, it's always a "plus" to hear from someone who was actually there.

The knife / sheath hasn't arrived yet, but I'm eager to receive it and clean it up, a tad.

*Knife arrived... staining on blade from improper, long-term storage but, has factory edge.
