NEW YORK (Aug. 11) - An Arabic-themed public school will still open in September, despite the abrupt departure of its embattled principal, the city Department of Education said.
Debbie Almontaser resigned as principal of an Arab-themed public school in New York Friday after she was criticized for being part of group selling shirts imprinted with the words "Intifada NYC."
"The fact that she is gone doesn't mean anything at all. All the people behind her are still there," said Hope Winters, a Manhattan mother and member of a group that brought the "Intifada NYC" T-shirts to public attention.

The First Intifada (1987 - 1993) (also "intifada" and "war of the stones") was a mass Palestinian uprising against Israeli rule[1] that began in Jabalia refugee camp and quickly spread throughout Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.[2]
Palestinian actions took a number of forms, including civil disobedience, general strikes, boycotts on Israeli products, graffiti, barricades, Molotov cocktails and grenades; but it was the stone-throwing demonstrations by youth against the heavily-armed Israeli Defense Forces that brought the intifada international renown.[3]
Over the course of the first intifada, an estimated 1100 Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers. Palestinians killed 160 Israelis and an additional 1000 Palestinians as alleged collaborators, though fewer than half of the latter had actually maintained contact with the Israeli authorities
So I guess the T-Shirts mean lets have a rebellion in NYC against the
Infidels and the nonbelievers of Islam

She says it was meant to mean "shaking off." Who knows what it REALLY means. They (the women) were shaking off the oppression. If that is what it supposed to mean, then say that on your t-shirt. Don't use some Aribic word associated with violence and the Palestinians.
Almontaser said the word "intifada" was most commonly associated with the violent Palestinian uprising against the Israelis. "I don't believe the intention is to have any of that kind of (violence) in New York City," she said.
Isn't that nice, I don't believe the intention is.
