Warwarsing Knife Museum

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Warwarsing Knife Museum

Post by william schrade »

Last Saturday I took a ride to Ellenville to visit the new knife museum. The first person I met was Richard "Doc" Craft. When I introduced myself he thought I was joking. No, really, I'm George Schrades great grandson. He wouldn't let go of my hand and led me in to meet Richard Langston. We talked at length about the history of the Schrade knife companies and other companies that manufactured knives in the area. These gentlemen are doing a great work keeping the history and legacy of an era gone by alive. It's worth the trip to see what they have created at the museum and to hear the stories they have collected from cutlers and residents who worked and lived in the area.

I am glad you made it to the museum and met Rich.
I hope to make it back there some day.
Rich is kind of infectious in his enthusiasm for Schrade knives and their history!
