Queen #48 Whittler with AAPK GEC club whittler

just got this Queen whittler from AAPK member store, Knifeaholic, am showing it here with AAPK club knife by GEC, another whittler and cigar
I put the Queen on top of the GEC in last photo
It is hard to believe Canal Street Cutlery contracts out to Queen
The connection between Queen and GEC is blurry to me now that Ken Daniels/family bought Queen
did they sever all ties with GEC? was there always two different factories?
I know Queen City Cutlery started with fired Shatt Morgan foreman in the early 1900's, competed with them, then bought them out lock,stock and barrel at sheriffs auction in 1933. What happened to the factory Queen started in, did they use both factories?

just that they are both whittlers and there is a connection between GEC and Queen that I was hoping to learn more about, especially since the sale

What happened to the factory Queen started in, did they use both factories?

II do not know much about Queen, but according to this article as of 2005 knives were still being made in the original factory that was opened in 1902.

The Queen factory is on Chestnut street in Titusville, and is their home from 1932 on - Before that they worked out oif a garage and other small factories in Titusvile, till they took over the old Schatt & Morgan factory - theyhave been there ever since.

Locals might recognize it more as the "east end of the ribbon factory" It is definitely old school, old building, and lots of old tools. David Krauss' book on Queen has the best overview, and David Clark's recent research says the new Queen company did business with the old Schatt & Morgan company before they closed up.

The GEC factory is a few blocks away in an industrial park created from the big old steel mills (Cyclops and others?)when Titusville was the "Queen." It looks more like a 1960s building with a glass overlook from the second floor to the main machining area.

I do not know if these two companies share much- Neither talks about it, although people from each company are very polite and minimal when talking about their local competition. Secret dealing and jobbing have been in the knife industry forever, so nothing would surprise me. In my mind, both companies are in a quiet but fierce competition to be the best traditional maker. THe companies are a bit different with GEC having been limited edition high-end knives from their recent start, while Queen has also made super working knives as well as fancy items

When Queen has its annual show, you can visit Titusville and both companies are open and ready to give factory tours. The most amazing thing about this is that hardly anybody in Titusville knows they have TWO of the most famous traditional knife makers in the world in their little burg.
