I have finally acquired each of the main representatives of the USA Schrade multitools. (not pictured is the ST2 Tough Chip which I forgot to include in the photo)

Without doubt, Dale will be along shortly to tell me there is another (impossible to find) example.

But I am a happy camper for the moment!

It is quite comfortable to use.

It one of the most comfortable multi tools I have ever used.

Is that a USA made Schrade Multitool or Taylor Brands....I have never seen one of those before..dang it! Another one to be on the look out for...LOL

Good question Tom.
My recollection is that I purchased it prior to Taylor’s entry into the market.
I believe it was made on contract for Schrade in China, but I could be wrong.
The clip blade is stamped STAINLESS/CHINA.
I think I was from the same time frame as the Badger series of knives from China, but at the moment I can’t substantiate that with documentation. I did a quick search in the catalogs this morning, but couldn’t find it. I will have to dig deeper when I have a bit more time.

If someone else has info on this please speak up!

Well, since you asked for it, here it is:

In my recent curiosity sparked by a Stanley SL6 that appeared to be a twin of a Schrade 863, I started looking around at other Stanley stuff. It turns out that Stanley and Rigid both had a Maxedge label which led to my discovery that they were all United Cutlery ventures.

A quick rundown of what I have found thus far ( the = sign means it looks like, not actually is, or is it?)

SL6 = Schrade 863 (also Rigid RG70)
SL2 = Schrade 89OT
SL12 = Schrade 3OT??
SL0047C = Schrade 104OT
SL1 = Schrade 6OT
SL16 = Apex Ireland utility
Rigid Bear Trapper = Schrade+ X Timer U.S.A. #XT7B (folder and fixed versions)
and so forth.

But the real kicker, for me, was recognizing a multitool I had searched for in vain as a Schrade mentioned by Dale in this ancient post. I had memorized its appearance, searched high and low and finally gave up.

Lo and behold!! I noticed this Stanley multitool listed and said to myself, “damned if that doesn't look exactly like that multi I was searching for several years ago. So I bid on it and landed it for under $10.

So this is the Stanley SL0073C complete with bit set and case.

Russell -- Re: your Stanley SL6.

While it looks like a Schrade 863 / Ulster 63 / Rigid RG70, it was made by Camillus as was the Rigid RG70, Remington R14 and Harley Davidson HD21 just to name a few. Camillus must have way over produced the SL6 main blades because I've seen a few last days Camillus 72s for sale on eBay with the Stanley ground off the mark side and the Camillus tang stamp etched on but the SL6 (over) 440 S.S. (over) USA still on the pile side. ( I was tempted to buy a few but ya can't buy every anomaly ya see. (or at least I can't)

I would have to agree with Jerry on the Stanley SL6.
I think the other folding knives could have been made by Camillus.
Here is a picture of a SL 2.
Notice the pins through the bolster.If it was a Schrade and made after 1960 it would have the Swindon System and you would not be able to see in the bolster pin.
Camillus and Schrade made similar knives.

That is a dead ringer for my Schrade Multitool, right down to the stampings on the jaws of the pliers!
It should make a good user.
My Schrade version is one of my favorite multi tools to use because the handles don't bite into my hands like the early Leatherman tools and the cheaper knockoffs.

Jerry and Grant, you guys are quite right. I never thought to compare scale pin placement on the SL6 to discern Schrade vs Camillus; and as far as the other knives, never had any in hand to see pins in bolsters. I just went with ebay images using the profiles related to familiar Schrade models. Also, other than the Cam 72, I am mostly unaware of other models save for the 898 and 886 that Camillus made as Schrade Uncle Henrys.

Dale, does your Schrade multitool like my Stanely have the bits and extra pocket for them in the sheath? Knowing now that your tool is marked Schrade makes me wonder how United Cutlery fits into the Baer scheme of companies.

Yes, my Schrade tool has the bits in a plastic holder that fits into the pouch on the sheath.

As far as United Cutlery goes, I don't know of any affiliation between Bears & United Cutlery, except perhaps as a maker of some of United's products.
IIRC, United Cutlery went bankrupt a couple times. I am not sure if there is any connection between the companies other than the name.
