I've heard good comments on the new Ruger 1911, the price is more affordable than many other 1911's on the market and you can always make it into your own by adding custom parts.
Great grips Monk!

I like the way those Ruger's look, nice SS finish and I have had very good luck with Ruger firearms over the years. I saw their "Combat Commander" version of the 1911 a couple of weeks ago - it's been on my mind! OH

Removed the low-end Bushnell scope from the Savage 24 .223/20guage and installed a Pentax 3x9x40. Have owned Pentax rifle scopes prior and must say that the quality is fantastic. Got some busy work around here this morning but hoping to get to the range later today or early tomorrow.

Thanks Monk.....had always wanted one so finally decided to go for it. It's not a high-end firearm by any means but is well spoken of on every forum I visited. It's heavy and is probably only an average rifle or shotgun at best, but the cool factor is definitely there, LOL. Should have an update soon on how it performs and how well regulated the barrels are.

Nice firearms Gents!

Speaking of 1911s, in case someone has a SIG 1911, got an email from SIG about a .22 conversion kit. I am not affiliated with SIG besides owning a few and being my favorite handgun manufacturer. Figured someone might be interested...

One of those conversion kits would be great if you could find any .22 ammo for sale. Guess I can tell my grandkids about the good ole days when you could walk into any hardware or sporting goods store and buy a box of .22s right off the shelf. You didn't have to stand in line or know anybody who worked there. They'd just sell em to you and if you went back the next day they'd sell you more.

Phil my friend, I thought about adding your very same comments to my post on the .22 kit. Well said and I agree. I onder what the real srory is behind the shortage? I have my own ideas.

To this day in Nevada, I can buy a gun in 15 or 20 minutes, no "cooling off period" and buy a pallet of ammo if I have the cash and it is in stock. .22 are the exception but I think they will make a comeback at some point. Only way to get .22 is to buy a .22 gun and they hold some back in the backroom for gun purchases. One of the hardware stores has a box of 50 for $10. I told the owner, no thanks. I have enough on hand personally at this point that I don't have to go there.

Regards, Jerry

Academy has had .22 on their website for a while - for as low as $2.29 per 50. I bought a little of it, just to see if I could (I have plenty). They limit you to two boxes of any one product, but you can buy multiple products. So I bought 2 boxes each of three different brands - for a total of 6 boxes (300 shells) for $28.....$8 of that was shipping. So it averaged about $4.66 per box including shipping. Of course, if you buy more boxes, the price per box would drop, as the shipping is a one time charge per shipment. And some of mine was High Velocity, which costs a bit more anyway.

Some really good prices but for the ones that are available online (many are not) they don't ship to Illinois so I am SOL anyway.

Sorry Jerry! I wonder why they don't ship to Illinois? Is it an Academy logistical thing or an Illinois Politicians "protecting" their constituency from the evil guns law?

We have Academy's on every corner down here. It's where I buy my shells for sporting clays. I can get a case (250 shells) of Winchester Super X 1oz for $54.90. That's about as cheap as I have found them.

They always seem to have plenty of shotgun shells in the store - but never any .22 on the shelf....hence I bought the .22 on-line.

:D When I bought my Henry Frontier they had a box of Winchester 22's , 222 to a box for $15. That was the only way they would sell them was to buy a 22 gun! ftd

Yeah, want some cheap guns and ammo from China?

I don't think I would want to shoot a "factory find" gun from Smokey, would you?

I suppose they'll follow Norm Thompson, Abercrombie & Fitch, L.L. Bean and Eddie Bauer and Cabelas and start selling silk panties.

Went to the local and infrequent gun show today in town. Too bad they scheduled the Drag Races the same weekend as alot of vendors were disappointed at the turn out and may not venture back here. My town has only 9000 people last I checked and all residents sure love their firearms.
Not much to do with knives, at least CASE but I met a guy there opening a shop in Reno. When I met him 2 years ago, he priced the knives he had at $10 per blade. Hope to have some great pickups soon.

My Financial Advisor graciously allowed me $100 allowance plus admission to go, you all know how that is.

I picked up a FLAK Jacket current issue in the Middle East ( if I am wrong as to description, you Military Service Personnel, please tell me) as far as I know from a young veteran that was selling them. If I overpaid, don't care as I helped out a young Veteran. From what I know, this is the same vest used over there. Did not come with the plates but does allow for them which can be easily bought on the internet. Vest was purchased for 75 bucks. Boatloads of options to mount all sorts of pouches. Came with two side plate pouches that can be used for mags, etc. Also picked up a one point sling for the AR-15.

Thanks Cam. Just so versatile could not pass it up. Jeans pockets only take you so far. When I go out in the desert, I carry all sorts of stuff I may never need but "I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it". In my Polaris RZR, I carry jumper cables, tire puncture kit, first aid kit, kindling, water, tools, extra clothes, hatchet, temp shelter, snacks, rope, handheld trail GPS, extra fuel, etc. You name it as far as survival or emergency needs, I carry it.
I also carry my AR-15, Glock 21 or SIG P226 and my S&W .410 Governor and loads of ammo for each. This vest just has some many options to carry most anything you can think of, well worth it in my opinion.

The terrain and weather here is unforgiving and if you are 30 or 40 miles out (I mean from the closest house or ranch) and have an issue, you are pretty much on your own for awhile, which I am prepared to deal with. If you are that far out and you are expecting quick aid around here, you are foolish.

The vest also accomodates a "chest carry" for one of my slide guns using a BlackHawk hard articulating holster which I may already have. What can I say, I like to have gear and options. Just so much I can carry on it that I use all the time or want quick access to.
