Way to go, Monk! Can't beat a neck shot like that. Do y'all ever pull the back straps and slice them into little 1 inch thick boneless chops? How about the tenderloins, wrap them in bacon and broil or grill. Like Grandpa Jones used to say, "Mmm-mmm-good!"

These little fellers haven't been hatched too long.
They are havin' a big time playin' "Ring around the feeder"! Double click on the pics, the kids might enjoy seein' these little guys.
I'm not "the sharpest crayon in the box" when it come to computer stuff. I down loaded the card from the game camera this mornin' and then couldn't find the pictures in the file. I tried everything, even plugged the card back in the computer, it sent me a message that there were no new images on the card, back and forth for a while. Finally I was able to open the file they were in and realized I had the date wrong on the game camera and the computer had placed the pictures in chronological order with last years pictures
. When I put new batteries in the camera I punched in 2013

Great pics TF and great shot Monk! Man, I love hunting here although tough but I would also love to buy some "hardware store tags" like we did back east when I was young versus this lottery crap.

Nice guns, Ken. Is the Swede a 6.5?
Nice grip cap on Old Bones.
The Ruger and the 338 must be real thumpers.

Yes, the swede is 6.5x55.FRJ wrote:Nice guns, Ken. Is the Swede a 6.5?

"Old Bones" is 7mm Mauser, 7x57, or 275 Rigby. (All the same cartridge)
The 338-06 is not bad, actually less recoil than some 30-06's I've shot. I think it has to do with a larger bore having less pressure.
I have not hunted with the 375 Ruger yet but, I don't anticipate any problems because when you're shooting at large game you don't notice recoil. However, it is brutal from the bench.

Nice rifles Ken, Mauser actions make for a great build. Did you do all stock fitting too? OH

Yes, I do it all. Occasionally I have farmed out bolt welding or bluing but mostly I do everything myself.Old Hunter wrote:Nice rifles Ken, Mauser actions make for a great build. Did you do all stock fitting too? OH
I just wish I could checker, I think that would improve the look immensely as well as the function.

Let me just say my grandson are mastering "hide & Seek." They don't talk, they don't move and the camo makes them hard to see.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Here's a buck I took during muzzleloader season (Oct 4). Made a 60 yard shot with my father-in-law's old Hawken.
He passed away last year, and I believe this is the first buck taken with that rifle in about 10 years. The deer weighed 150. Still had velvet antlers 'cause he was not "all the man that he was supposed to be", if you get my drift.

rangerbluedog,
That Hawken style did a number on Bambi
. Had your father-in-law killed a lot of deer with that rifle? Did the buck have some age on him? Heavy lookin' beams even though he was still in velvet. What ever, he'll eat good
.
Great pics, I love to see good huntin' pics and to know how the successful hunt came to be.

Here is an old Sports Illustrated article about my uncle. It talks about trout fishing in Yellowstone, growing up in the Depression, and serving in WW II. I am sure Charles had many knives and firearms.
