Howdy-Hi!

Post by b1k3hobo »

Long time knife aficionado just entering my 40s.

I like Barlows and Trappers, Douk-Douks and Opinels, Cases, US GI pocket knives, Scandinavian fixed blades like Puukkos, Leukus, (own a couple Helles and Moras) Some of the vintage and some new Schrades, Russel Green Rivers (dont have any of their folders yet though), Svord Peasants, O1 carbon steel, shallow and scandi grinds and things like that. Also I ride bicycles.

I get conflicted about style vs utility vs cost. (gotta save for retirement) There is the ohmygosh that is so neat baroqueness of a 100 year old Solingen stag handled does everything automatic folding hunting knife, the understated almost formal lines of a Sheffield or New England Barlow in with ebony or bull horn - and the insane cutting performance of $8 Opinel whose handle has been worn bare of varnish and black with use (see also sodbusters).

So hi! It is intensely fun to get browsing around here and just geek out on pocket knives.

Welcome to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard. A lesson I should have learned. Retirement first, knives second. :)

It is a bicycle saddle/seat whose design goes back to 1882, basically thick leather held in tension between front and rear mounts. Not too comfortable initially but breaks in like a baseball glove after 10,000 miles or so.
