Rehandled Svord Peasant Knife

My first real-ish knife project/mod.
I bought it cheap with the blaze-red plastic chili-pepper shaped handles, and immediately removed them, making tracings of their layout. I used some 70 year old scrap maple, and the original brass screws, added some washers I made from brass sheet, and a brass spacer made from an old hard drive stepper motor. Brass pinstock for the blade-stop pin.

I ended up with something a bit more Puukko-like. Maybe it is a bit bulkier, but carries very safely, and with less of the tang showing in open position, holds much more comfortably and feels more predictable in handling- it balances at the stop pin, on my index and middle fingers. I can just cradle it with those two fingers and it won't go tumbling away point first, as with the stock handle.

Nice job, especially for your first modification!

If you keep it up though, you should know knife modification and repair is addictive!

Looks great! I'm doing the same thing to the same knife. I bought a wood handled one. I brought it to a friend of mine who's a luthier and has all sorts of different woods and asked him to layer 3 or 4 scrap pieces of different colors (like cocobolo, maple and rosewood) and then cut a diamond shaped dovetail and flip the two halves, then arc the shape and bevel it. I have absolutely no clue how it's going to look and gave him full liberty to do whatever he wants since he obviously knows what he's doing. I'll post the final results here when he's done.

It's pretty early, but I've already learned what a luthier is . Lookin' forward to seeing the end result.

Me, too! Bob doesn't do anything half-baked, so whatever he comes up with should be pretty amazing.
