Our Wal-Mart's no longer sell firearms. They did, back in the '90s and before. Too much political correctness pressure in a liberal voting state I guess.

Thanks guys. Jerry it's funny how "politically correct" varies so much from place to place. The sales clerk at Walmart told me mine was the 40th gun sale of the day and I was there in the early afternoon.

Yeah, I hear ya Phil. People buy guns here. It's just that the people in The Great State Of Chicago don't want 'em to. In my mind, a perfect case of the tail (or some part of the anatomy in that region) wagging the dog.

The 700 is a great rifle in my opinion, I've got 3 of them. Been ridin' one about 45 years or so, it's a ADL 30/06. Then there's the 50 cal. 700ML that shoots well(not my muzzle loader of choice any more ) and last but not least is the ADL .243 that has been the mainstay of my deer huntin' for quite a few years. Lot's of folks seem to put a lot of stock in the reports of safety issues concerning the 700s, I tend to see that a political witch hunt , accidents happen but if the muzzle is pointed where it is supposed to be then nobody gets hurt no matter what! Easy to place the blame on such a popular rifle as there have been so many sold since the early 60s when it came out, possibility for more "accidents" . Safe gun handling and the problems disappear .

I take it the State or Chicago (are they one and the same?) have not complied.

Oh, they did reverse the laws and since the state is controlled by Chicago, they are pretty much one in the same.

The new problem we have is Illinois followed New York's example and made the application process so difficult and expensive that I'm not sure anyone has been the first to get a CCP.

I for one, will not be able to afford it. Oh well, I've gotten along all these years without carrying concealed (or open) so I guess I can make it through the few years I have left on this planet.

Phil - you pretty much stole that 700. That's a great price.

I bought a used left-handed BDL version in .30-06 a couple of years ago and paid a little more than that. Mine was made in 1996, but the previous owner obviously didn't use it much - it looks like new and shoots great. I stuck a Leupold 3x9x40 scope on it.

Being a south-paw - it's the first bolt action that I don't have to reach over the top to work the action.

You know, where I live, Alabama, way back when we had something called a "Poll Tax", essentially requiring one to pay the tax or not vote.

That worked fine and covered some of the election costs and was no real hindrance to those that could afford to pay it.

It wasn't much, but just enough to keep a good portion of African-Americans from actually exercising their Constitutional rights.

Of course, it was a despicable law, enacted by democrats (don't ever let anyone tell you differently) for the very result that I just described.

Eventually, a lawsuit made its way to The Supreme Court and the whole process was overturned and Congress also passed The Voting Rights Act.

Seems to me that charging an exorbitant fee to obtain a State license to own and carry a firearm, a Constitutional Right granted by The Second Amendment, is pretty much like that old poll tax.

The powers that be are disenfranchising a segment of society.

So, somebody needs to sue them and take it as high up the court ladder as possible.

Here's a new-to-me Victory model Smith & Wesson from WW2. Serial number points to late 1945 manufacture I think. It has both the flaming bomb U.S. stamp, as well as British proof marks. Probably a late war lend-lease gun. Unfortunately the caliber is .38 S&W, not .38 Special that I prefer. The barrel was originally 5", but has been cut to 3 1/2" and the front blade sight repositioned. All serial numbers match except the grips. I think they are correct style but not original to this gun. Oughta be fun to play with. I got it CHEAP!

Nice pics! I'll have to check, may still have dies and brass for such a beast. I know there is a 200 grain flat nose bullet mould on hand (gas check though).

I'm sitting here looking at a pile of Springfield '03 parts, trying to decide if I want to build up a couple of rifles or sell them off. I keep having thoughts of how much I've always wanted a copy of the Bushmaster, and how much I enjoyed the Springfield "match rifle" I shot in competition as a kid--alternating with memories of one firing out of battery due to a broken firing pin. . . . Probably why these got tucked in a closet for almost 15 years!

Jim, there is something appealing about a 200 grain lead bullet traveling about 630 fps! I've shot the 146 grain lead RN bullets currently made by PPU through an old Enfield No. 2 revolver, and it was indeed a pleasure. This may make a sweet little plinking gun. If it doesn't rain tomorrow I may take it out for a spin.

Those old '03s are at a premium now. I have a Remington made '03A3 that I enjoy on occasion. I have a stockpile of Greek .30-06 ammo from the 1970s. Fun stuff!

You guys are talking my language! I've got a Smith Corona 03A3 that is terrifically accurate with the HXP 73 Greek - a buddy gave me a USMC Hood several years ago and its perfect with a C front blade - never have to remove it for accurate shooting. OH

Here is a Vintage C-H Magnum Deluxe Reloading H type Press built over 50 years ago by Charles Heckman. After a good cleaning, new American Red textured finish applied, this press operates smooth and accurate as the day it was first sold back in 1960.

Tried out the new toy & WOW !!!! Shooting out behind the boat shed,standing,with no props @ 17 paces I think I have a ""Keeper"" ______shoots every bit as good as the full size,with this old man behind it !!!! ____ Out of 4 clips (32 rounds) at a steady shooting pace __ I count about 28/29 holes in the ""HURT ZONE"" for the ""Bad Guys"" ____ and made in tha' U.S.A. ( Houlton,Maine U.S.A.__ to be exact ) great shooting little gun
