Way cool Philip - congratulations to everyone involved. Miss Joy is probably all settled down by now and your Grandsons have some stories to tell and remember! OH

Unk, hope you have a nice time - I looked their website over and it looks pretty nice, much like the place I went to in SD last month. You can still miss a Ringneck, big and slow or not! Looking forward to your pictures. OH

Went into the swamps for Woodies Saturday morning - still breaking in the NOS Browning Light Twelve I bought a couple of weeks ago. Three gunners got three ducks in our little patch of swamp - me and mine in this picture. There were plenty of ducks, I'd say 30 -35 in the 20 minutes they flew off the roost, but most stayed above the pines and headed for the river - very little actual shooting. OH

Good stuff Bruce. I need to go duck hunting!
I did take a couple newbies to the woods Saturday.....great nephews whor are 8 & 5!
They had a blast.
Here's a pic where we built out fort (glorified lean-to) and had a snack - water, jerky, and shared an apple I cut with my Mora Knife!

Thanks Jerry, Old Hunter. Oh, I have no doubt I can (and will) miss a pheasant! lol
Thankfully I will be with some guys I have known since the first day of third grade - which was 1970. So I am sure there won't be any merciless teasing for missed shots
That sure is a nice A5, OH. My buddy shoots one when we go shoot Sporting Clays. It was given to his father in the mid-60s as a college graduation present. His is a light twelve also, with a imp cyl choke barrel.

Scott, bet the nephews are tickled to be part of your adventure crew - they look like they're loving it!
Unk, thanks, this one is Japanese made. I spent a little time looking for a Jap made due to it's ability to handle steel shot (actually found more Belgian's than Jap's for sale), the barrel on this one is also IMP CYL. OH

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Best advice I can give is to simply enjoy yourself Dogg - duck hunting, like all wingshooting, is addictive! I'm getting more and more that if forced to chose I'll go bird hunting of some type over big game - now that is a change. Go with an experienced duck hunter a few times if you can - it's easier to learn that way. I'm a member of Ducks Unlimited - I read their magazine and website for lots of good info. There is also Duck Hunting chat on the internet (kind of like AAPK, but for duck and goose hunting) check them out. OH

The name of the website is Duck Hunting Chat but it is not a "Chat Room" - it is a forum about duck hunting very similar to AAPK is a forum about pocketknives. OH

Nothing quite like returning to the warm glow of a cozy cabin after a long cold day in the woods...
Here's a pic of it in the day time for a little contrast

How cool Mike (pun intended) - outdoors in the snow - we never get to have that adventure. OH

You're so right, Bruce, some of us never get to experience the snow and I'm kinda' good with that
, but it would be nice and see how it would be to track an ol' buck through the snow
.
Looks like Mike was able to track ol' Lobo in the snow in another thread.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
I gotta tell ya fellas, there is another whole level of excitement that comes with seeing truly fresh tracks in the snow! Especially when they cut right over your own tracks from on the way in. Now trailing that wolf was a first for me, something I will never forget! And those tracks were less than an hour old, my nephew saw him come cut across one of his shooting lanes clear as day. Fresh snow that morning so there was no mistaking his trail.
Notice how each print is directly in front of the other... about 2 1/2 feet between.
He went right down into the thick swampy stuff on the lake bottom, across the frozen standing water where we lost him.

Maybe I'll rethink this snow thing, Y'all make me cold just lookin' at the pics
. Believe I'll stick with skeeters, gators, warmer weather and an occasional moccasin or rattler

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Just got home from the pheasant hunt in Kansas today. Had a great time. I highly recommend the Ringneck Ranch if want to hunt a few pheasants. There were 5 of us....we arrived Friday evening, hunted all day Saturday and we bagged our limit of 60 by noon on Sunday. Watching the dogs work was amazing. I was lucky enough to get a double on Sunday morning - could'a had a chance at a triple if I had had 3 shells loaded!
The accommodations are nice, and the food was superb.
