NEW "BEWARE" THREAD
I thought it would be useful to new collectors of Schrades, especially, but also some of us who think we know a little more. The idea is to post auction listings of Schrades, or "Schrades" which are not exactly as they are made out to be. I will start it out with an ebay listing, and let the reader make his/her own conclusions, but whenever I do this, obviously I don't think the listing is kosher. Here is the first one; everyone please add anything new that you think appropriate.

Re: NEW "BEWARE" THREAD
Not pre 1973, but is a USA Made Schrade. Probably a Cigar Box variety, but is unfinished, no shield or blade etch.

Re: NEW "BEWARE" THREAD
So we have a knife with a Walden Knife Company stamp (which was not affiliated with Schrade), commisioned by an importer of Chinese knives, and made in Alabama, and advertised as a Schrade Walden by the seller, although neither box or knife say that. What a mash-up! It would be fun to know where the steel, pins, covers and box all came from. It may be a rather cosmopolitan citizen of the world! By the way, for those who care about such things, Bear and Son knives just have the one pin to axle the springs, no pins to secure the covers; they are glued on.

This one is a Camillus. Made right after Schrade's bankruptcy.

I'm really curious about the origin of these. That trapper being the 2nd one that I've seen on ebay in the last 6 months. I own a '787' of the same type jigged bone work as that trapper and have seen a couple others in different patterns on ebay that appeared to be from the same origin because of the same jigged bone handles on traditional Schrade frames using Schrade blades and grooved bolsters. Mine only says Schrade Walden Ny. USA on one tang and that's it. When I bought the one pictured below, I assumed some craftsman had done a nice job of building it from Schrade parts he had purchased. I almost bid on the 2 trappers, that one and the other, just to go with the '787' because they kinda match, like a set. They are pretty.tongueriver wrote:http://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-Schrade ... 541a6fc0ff

When Taylor purchased the Schrade name after 2004 they had knives made by Camillus,Bear and Sons and GEC.I think your knife was made by Bear & Sons.Mustanger wrote:Have another look. I fixed it. The knives posted are USA made knives but not made by Imperial Schrade.

Re: NEW "BEWARE" THREAD
I have always been sure that the knife I bought was not made in the Ellenville factory, (same with the trapper shown), but I am still pretty sure the blades were. Sorry I don't have good picture of the tang stamp and blades. I am fully aware of the Taylor Schrade Waldens since I was fooled once a long time ago. This smattering of similar bone handled knives that I see very seldom has had me thinking that someone, B&S or whoever was using Ellenville parts purchased at an auction or something. They are not the same as the crap that Taylor has been selling. At one point I searched for a known Taylor knife like the one I have and couldn't find one. They just show up on ebay once in a great while, except for these 4 1/8" trappers. 3 of them that I know of in about 6 or 8 months. They pop up in my ebay suggestions. There is always something to raise one's curiosity and create unanswered questions when it comes to Schrade knives. All that aside, it's an interesting idea having this thread. I could waste alot of time posting all of the odd mistakes in Schrade knife descriptions and out and out lies told to sell knives on ebay. Seems I rarely do any searching on ebay these days without finding some serious discrepancies. And I ain't all that smart either.Shearer wrote: When Taylor purchased the Schrade name after 2004 they had knives made by Camillus,Bear and Sons and GEC.I think your knife was made by Bear & Sons.

I believe the muskrat is part of a cigar box issue, minus it's shield, an EOD as some one said. The two with shields have serial numbers but other than that the tang stamps and jigging match. This link will take you to a picture of the cigar box flyer in the Schrade image gallery here at AAPK. http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... w=no_countMustanger wrote:I'm really curious about the origin of these. Re: NEW "BEWARE" THREAD
I believe that no one can be sure about some of the later knives with the Schrade Walden USA tang stamp.I have a 4"stockman in a 2003 cigar box with a proper insert for a stockman knife but there is no 4" stockman listed.
I think there was a lot of cigar boxes sold when Schrade closed and purchased by Taylor and knives added later.
I have a 100th anniversary truck with a China made knife with the 100th Anniversary etch on the blade. The knife is the same as the Taylor China made Schrade.
I cannot see anything wrong with knives made in the USA carrying the Schrade name .
Most of the USA knife makers at sometime had knife made for them when they could not fill a contract .It was just good business practice to keep the customer happy.

PERFECT! Your just in time with your post since I said ta-heck with it and bought the trapper that Jerry pictured above earlier this morning for a fair price. It looks exactly like the Cigar Box trappers, minus the shield. I was sure that those knives were made from Schrade parts. When, where or by who I still cannot say for sure. I'm going with EODs made from spare parts, probably/maybe in Ellenville. This has been bothering me for about a year since I bought the muskrat knife. I went searching for answers again yesterday and came up empty, again! Now I'm mad at myself for passing on the premium serpentine stockman I came across on ebay some months ago. It matched the others in bone work, bolsters and no shield. Not the same as having the Cigar Box knives, but they are really nice bone handled knives none the less. Can't thank you enough for the attention to my post and the information. And while I'm at it, thanks for the recent purchase of the 855RB 'Stainless' peachseed knife. That little bit of excess glue on the shield came right off with my thumbnail and polished up real nice. Have a great day!
