Schrade Experts - need help here!

I bought this stock man knife in the 80's era, a 1984 everlasting Sharp 8801 a beautiful knife never used BUT.... on the tang there are 2 large XX stamped over Heritage Schrade + N Y USA so what does this mean? at the time of purchase, that knife dealer told me it's a factory Second. Thanks for any input to this matter

The X-out was used by Schrade for factory seconds.
Often the problem is a cosmetic blem but I have seen X-outs that looked and felt as good as one that passed QC.

I would have to agree with orvet.(Dale )
I have a couple of 804 Heritage whittlers with XX stamps and the only thing I could see wrong is a handle blemish.I think that the Heritage was a premium knife and they where fairly had on quality control.
In some of the earlier Schrade the seconds they ground off some of the tang stamps.

Thanks for the replies guys now to figure out any value to it? I just don't see anything wrong with it! the QC must of had a long day so he/she just stamped the XX on it

My Mom worked in Quality Control at Schrade for many years and believe me, they rejected a lot of knives. More than any of us would believe in fact. There were several different ways they would indicate seconds, such as XX over the tang stamps and grinding the tang stamps off. They even disassembled knives at times and reused the parts to rebuild more knives, depending on material availability.

Schrade quality was at a high standard! Now having said this.......there were times that knives left the plant that were not up to speed 100%......in most cases this was done to meet delivery deadlines so as not to default on a delivery. Then Schrade would have the knives returned to be repaired or replaced. It was all about business.

Mom worked for Schrade for 37 years....this was back when folks stayed working for the same company for most of their Adult life.
