Need Paypal Advice

I have been selling on ebay for quite a while now but I have never signed up for paypal. I have heard lots of horror stories about about paypal so I have been leary of it. Could some of you that sell on ebay and accept paypal tell me about your experiences with it. I would really like to sign up for it but I don't want to have trouble with it.

hey james, i have used paypal for years. no real problems. kind of a hassel get signed up with bank verification, credit card. my advice is start a new checking account for paypal only. if you have any questions, feel free to pm me. btw, the premier account is the way to go. costs nothing.

I've never had any problems with them. It’s no different than a bank account, credits and debits!

I had an interesting experience recently with PayPal. I had withdrawn $400.00, and transferred it to my bank. After eleven days I noticed that the bank was not showing that it had been deposited, yet PayPal indicated it had been completed several days after I had withdrawn it. I called PayPal, and believe me you have no idea what you have to go through to speak with a human. The representative told me that I needed to contact my bank and find out why it wasn't deposited! I told him that was the most ridiculous explanation I have ever heard and that it was their problem not mine. The next day it showed up as deposited in my bank account. I read somewhere recently that PayPal's biggest problem is employee theft. I don't know if that is true or not, but this experience sure made me realize I have to stay on top of any transactions with them.

i don't know about paypal employee theft but they are sometime slow with deposits. a gazillion transactions a day. every day your money is there they make interest. i'm not a fan but i've had no problems.

I have sold a couple of thousand items on Ebay and much of it was sold and bought thru PayPal.
My problems have been absolutely minimal. I have always kept PayPal at arms length as far as my banking goes, so I have to make withdrawals by check, for which I have to pay $1.50. I withdraw when I get a sizable amount in my account, so I don't have to incur the withdrawal expense very often. I much prefer that to letting PayPal have my banking info.
I will say that their claim of protection up to $2000, or whatever, is a MYTH. I had a situation where I made claim and it was denied without justification, at least in my opinion.
As a seller, it is just way to uncomplicated not to use it. You usually get paid right away and can mail the item out immediately. I guess the same goes for using it as a buyer.
The cost is getting higher and on higher value knives, I may quit accepting it.
That is my experience which I say is good, overall.

As a buyer of well over 1,000 transactions, PayPal is one of the first things I look at to see if the seller will accept.

The alternatives are quite difficult for me because of circumstances. If the seller will not accept a personal check then I usually pass because to get a MO is almost impossible for me.

By using PayPal I have had two bad transactions refunded with no problems.

I know the fee's are a bit much and I try to use the direct transfer to reduce the sellers cost. That be said I must also say that on some occasions I do use the credit card as it gives me a second layer of protection.

Maybe I have been lucky but, knock on wood, I have not had any real problems.
