Daddy's whittler and Glennbad
This was my daddy's Sunday go to meetin' knife for years when I was a little boy. It was an old 3 eye Eye Brand split back whittler. It had those old Christmas tree celluloid handles that were all the rage back then, and as a little boy I'd stare at it in the gun cabinet where he kept it and think to myself that it was the prettiest knife I'd ever seen.
By the time I was in my early 20's, daddy had moved in to other knives and seldom packed this one. I mentioned one day how much I liked it, and he gave it to me! I've hardly ever packed it, preferring a bigger knife and all, but recently I noticed the bolsters starting to change colors and I knew it was about to give way.
So, off to Glenn it went. All I told him was that I liked old dark red stag. I don't like much white, and I don't like gnarly. If he could find stag like that fine, if not some old looking bone. I also asked if he could, to use the original shield. Other than that it was all up to him what he did.
Here are some before and after pics. It's perfect! Simply amazing. I'm packing this one! The hard thing will be keeping it! All three of my boys have claimed it and as much as daddy likes stag he'll be wanting this one back, lol.

I enjoyed how this knife came out so much, I didn't want to send it off. I took some pics to remember it by.
It's a real joy when working on knives like this, and you get the action just right.
Thanks Wade!

Thanks Phil and Wayne! I do believe this is now the prettiest knife I have. Glenn out did himself for sure.
It'll get a whole lot more wear before the boys get it!

Glenn, you certainly did that old knife proud. Great job.

Thanks guys for all your positive comments. Glenn really did a fine job here.
1) the scales are beautiful and perfectly done.
2) he got the action just right. Good resistance, great snap both ways.
3) he didn't clean the patina off the blades so the history is still there as is the faint double eye etch.
4) all the springs and liners are good and tight, the fit is superb.
Glenn really is a great craftsman, and a great guy too. I've said it 100 times already I know, but thank you Glenn!

Glenn did do a great job on that fine old knife. The shield on that knife is most interesting. I guess I never paid attention to an Eye brand shield before, but I really like that!
